Less than a month to go.  Anyone else getting excited?  This will be my third year doing the sprint.  It's a great race for experienced and beginner triathletes alike!

For you guys doing the double, do you let up on the Sprint a bit to save something for the next day, or just go all out?

I ease up a little bit on the sprint. This will be my third time doing this (first year at Longhorn and last year at Lonestar). Each time, I've swam and rode at about my goal efforts for the 1/2. I put a little more effort into the run.

I'm in for the sprint. I wanted to do the quarter, but didn't train. I'm excited but scared of the cold water!

Fortunately the water is fairly warm in Galveston.  Or at least it has been the last couple of years....

If I was doing the half I'd definately be easing up,, my plan is to go all out for the sprint then use that as my excuse ( not my inconstistant training) for the 1/4 on sunday... If I was in as good as shape as Dennis,,, it wouldn't matter

I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew.  The sprint on Saturaday will be my first tri, following up on Sunday with my second tri (the quarter).  Generally, I think I can recover well for Sunday if I don't kill my legs on Saturday's bike by pushing too hard.  I've set personal goals for both events, which I think are attainable but they may just be pie in the sky.  I imagine it's one of those things that you just don't know until you've tried it.  I'm super excited though as I have three friends/family doing the sprint (also first timers) and a training partner who's doing the quarter.

I know key to recovery will be adequate hydration and stretching, but if anyone has additional tips for ensuring good recovery, I would appreciate it? Thanks.

Mark

I'm doing the sprint and the half.  I'll push the bike on the sprint, but back off on the run.  Its going to be tough to let people go at the end of the sprint.  I guess I'll just close my eyes and keep in mind its really just a big training weekend.

If you have the "stick" it works well for post workout recovery.  Honestly, a rolling pin does the same thing.  Some will wade waist deep into the water to cool the legs if you're one that subscribes to the whole ice bath thing.  They feel good, but I can't say they've helped me with recovery.

I'm doing the sprint.  It will be my first tri so I signed up for the first timers wave.  It will be weird swimming in Offat's Bayou because I grew up fishing in it.

If you don't have experience with open water swimming, I'd definitely recommend the swim seminar.  It's a lot different from swimming in the pool. I don't know what the general first-time seminar entails, but if you've never seen a triathlon before I'm sure it'd help a lot.

another first-timer here.  first post, for that matter.  if they only had a class for "50+ clydesdale first-timers", I'd bring home the gold for sure!  need to get out on my borrowed bike and get some miles in...

I'm only doing the Sprint. Texas spring game is the next day...priorities, I have them.

For the first timers, go to the seminar. Also, do not freak out when they jet ski people out of the race only 200 meters in. You should have 2 goals; have fun and finish.

Not to worry!

There are lifeguards on surfboards and others on jet skis out on the course for safety reasons.  Swimmers who need a rest can grab onto a surfboard.  If the swimmer decides not to continue, they'll call the jet ski to get him/her to shore quickly!

Because that person freaked out.

Seriously, that's about what happens. One gets out there, gets bumped around, gets out of breath, starts doubting oneself, and just panics.

That's the key to it. Just relax and have some confidence in your training.

It is nice to see I am not the only one who is getting nervous/excited about their first Tri. Sealed

But I know I just have to think positive and I should be fine.
