Total Time = 27m 39s
Overall Rank = 214/387
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 2/22
Pre-race routine:

Got up early and made coffee. I had a monster headache so I chugged 4 cups o joe before I left. Drank a bunch of water too. Headache hung on though. I ate some waffles and left to pick up Megan and Cara.
Event warmup:

None to speak of. Walked around a bit. Chatted with Megan, Cara and Beth.
Run
  • 27m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

I started out too fast. The gun went off and I did too. Cara passed me about .75 into the race. Crap. Megan passed me a little later. Crap. Oh well, they aren't in my division so not a huge issue. Passed the first mile marker and the clock said 8:30. Nice but not sure I can hold that pace. I was huffing and puffing along and the clock said 17 something at mile 2. Sweet. I started to fade during the last mile. I was tired and my head was pounding! Suck it up buttercup! A chick in my division passed me and I just couldn't pass her again. I knew the finish was coming so I started my final push. I really wanted to reel in the chick who passed me but I came up just a bit short. 15 seconds from 1st in the Athena group. Bummer. Still stoked about my time though. A PR by around 8 minutes! My first hardware too! Bonus!
What would you do differently?:

Not start out too fast. Push harder. It's a 5k. Who cares if you feel like you are gonna die. Run faster!
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Forgot to take a hit of my inhaler. Oops! I'd like to race when I am completely healthy. I just can't seem to shake sickness lately.
