that's AWESOME!!  nice race, speedy !

Thanks!  Yeah it looks fast until everyone else posts their times here. :-)

A friend of mine did really well, coming in at 2:19.  He thought he was going to finish first in his age group, then at the last second someone he didn't know was behind him, passed him.  He was pretty bummed about it.  Until, when the results came out, he was listed a 1 second winner!  The guy that passed him must've led with his non-chip leg, or maybe the mat can detect a bit in front of the cable.

I still don't know how I didn't see anyone wipe out on the bike course.  It seemed pretty slippery.  Especially when you'd be cruising down a hill, then come out into a field area, and a big wind gust blows you across the lane a bit.  Woah!

trishie - 2009-05-17 3:57 PM How's everyone feeling??

I was prepared for the hills on the bike but not on the RUN !!

my race report is up on my blog if you are interested -- there are lots of pictures http://irontrish.blogspot.com

Great race report, thanks for the quickness!  Good job!

I am feeling pretty good.  I didn't really push myself to suffering too much.  A bit disappointed with the bike and that I am not willing to slam the downhills, especially in the rain.  Ended up with a 2:40 which is a 16 minute PR from my previous Columbia Tri, can't complain about that.  I think I PRed in all 5 diciplines.

Great race report, trishie!

Dave, you said you got a 2:40?  That means one of us beat the other by mere seconds, as I was at 2:40:28.

Does anybody know if they are planning to split the Bike and T1 times later?  I feel like I had a good bike split, but a glacial T1, so I hate that they're being lumped together.

Good word choice!  My T1 was glacial too so they better split it up like it's supposed to be!!! I hope it wasn't timing problem like they had for a while at the finish (the mat wasn't registering at the pre-finish so a lot of folks didnt get their names called).

Anyone know what's up with the bike & T1 being clumped?

I missed my stretch goal by 00:00:03, but I still PR'd by 9 minutes, so I can't complain!

Haha, yeah you got me.  I was 2:40:56.  You made up 6 minutes on me on the run.  Well we won't be that close together for very long, you have a bigger upside than I do.  Well since we were once talking about if I was capable of just holding off my 16 minute wave lead on you, I'll take it. :-)

If there's no technical issues I'm sure the splits will be posted but you never know what issues might have happened.  I've seen races where you can't even trust the results at all so what they have so far isn't bad at all. ;-)

Great race report!  You sure are lucky to have Chrissie tell you nice job.  She by far is the coolest triathlete ever.

From the results page:

Due to adverse weather and technical problems, a corrupt data file prevented us from listing the swim to bike transition times.  As a result, these times are included in your bike split.  We apologize for this omission.

that sux!  But still congrats to everyone who raced

Yeah, after getting blown across the road with the disc and having really sketchy handling on the longer/faster downhills I took the safer route and slowed down in places.  But I didn't have a lot of oomph in the legs, especially compared to Dan who is a training machine.  He earned the beer and even better an AG win at one of the toughest races around!!

I came in right at my realistic expected time - 2:24:41.  And had as good a swim as I could expect with a sub-30 (and not hardly any training from my shoulder problem in Feb/March).  Placed 16th in AG and an injured Fred still won the BT smackdown beating me by :37.

Great job to all!  Especially CJ for knocking a good bit from his PR and Traci for finishing her first oly!!

That was me who passed him. I thought I had out kicked him, but I guess not. He led me the whole race so he deserves it more. I will see him again at Eagleman!

So I didn't compete, but I figure somebody would be interested in some of my stories from the day, (and I've got nothing better to do while at work tonight, so read if you feel frisky)

I volunteered to help out in the transition area, hoping to get some good views of what was working for people and what wasn't.

Started the morning checking braclets at the Blue Arch. This was a bit awkward, since the only intel I was given was no braclet, no entry. Obviously, people often wanted to know more than that. I fumbled through most questions, until a fella with a sourth Pacific accent started asking me where the run out was, I had no clue on course layout, but I told him it looked like it might be to the left of the swim exit (luckily the right answer). The guy starts to walk away, and I commence talking with my fellow volunteer, who says he should just follow the pack. I half jokingly note that perhaps there will be no pack for this guy to follow, and said guy turns around and kind of snickers. Turns out, the questioner was Terenzo, and indeed he would not have a pack to guide him out of T2.

Anyways, after the race started, I directed traffic until the bikes started coming back in. Once Yoder rolled into T2, I was directed back over to the dismount area and slow bikers down before what I felt was a poorly marked dismount line, until my voice gave out.

The view from the dismount line was interesting. I can say that not many appeared very smooth at the flying dismount, and I am sure a few left with road rash on their feet. Many a shoe was left behind as people dismounted and ran over them. All in all, the dismount was kind of scary until it started to dry out later in the morning.

Of particular note was the two folks who full out wrecked coming around the final turn before dismount. Both recovered quite smoothly and appeared uninjured. The later of the two riders left what appeared to be her computer lying in pieces on the ground as she shouldered her bike and pressed into the transition. But the falls were scary just the same. I can only imagine how it felt to be on the bike and grab your brakes, only to lock into a skid taking you 20+ ft. past the dismount line.

Luckily there weren’t many falls at the actual dismount line, so bottle necks were kept to a minimum. I hope everybody had a good race, and look forward to wearing a number next year.

Hey everyone,

Great job yesterday. It was great to meet a bunch of BTers this weekend.

I took a ton of pictures of the pros and was able to capture some of our group also.

The end of the men's race was awesome. Chrissie Wellington is now my favorite triathlete. As many of you know she hung around the finish line for a long time to give out medals.

I couldn't figure out a way to load multiple pictures to a BT Album so I threw them up on my Facebook page for anyone who wants to check them out. I haven't had a chance to look over them so I'm not making any promises on the quality.

Great job everyone. And I ALMOST wiped out at the dismount. I started fishtailing, but held it up.

Didn't hit my high goal, but I did manage to drop 9 minutes off my last columbia tri.

Here's what I posted up on Friday as my goals:

Goal time 2:50:00 (Big goal)
Ok with sub 3:00:00 - I will be a bit ticked if I don't break 3 hours.

Swim Goal sub 25; happy with sub 26
Bike Goal 1:25; happy with sub 1:30 (yes, I'm that slow on the bike)
Run Goal sub 55; happy with sub 56 (really no excuse to only avg 9 min miles - I should be 30 secs faster per mile, but we'll see)
Transistions Goal sub 4:00; Happy with sub 5

And the results
2:51:29 (Pretty pleased with this
Swim: 24:04
Bike+T1: 1:32:30 - I am pretty sure I broke 1:30 for the bike, but can't say for sure. When I first saw the time on the results I was pissed! I didn't realize it was combined with T1
T2: 1:46
Run: 53:10

77th in my age group. I'm pretty pleased with the results. The big goal for next year is 2:40.

Again, great job to everyone and I'm sorry I didn't make it out to meet all of you.

I ran a short recovery run this morning ........

Follow your plan (if you have one).  If not I'd recommend an easy spin, and easy run or a short swim to loosen the legs up.  Only if you are totally shelled/injured would I say take the day completely off - but that also varies with the individual.  I'll sometimes prescribe full off days after big races.

I found the penalty page of the results interesting.  Not quite half were for drafting.  Quite a few were 2 minute penalties for "Position".  What in the world is that?

My plan calls for an easy 30 min spin --- which is perfect for a recovery day.

Jeff --- I was curious about that too --- I tried to look it up but couldn't find any explanations.
