Anyone doing this? If so, there is some good news. They actually started filling the potholes on Avent Ferry. I was nervous that this section was going to be not just rough, but dangerous. Now, it looks ok.

The rest of the route looks like pretty good surface quality.

Now, we just need some warm weather to heat up the lake.

I had written this one off because I thought it was a 250 yard swim and I just couldn't see putting on a wetsuit for that. Considering my training maybe I should do this one instead of Beaverdam Oly.

Looks like I might be doing this one after all. How's the lake?

I'll be doing this one.  That's great news about the potholes.  The last thing that we need are people swerving, popped tires, etc.  Hopefully it will be a great race!

For the roads, the Avent Ferry part is still a bit rumbly, but is rideable. Plan to go a little slower on that section but if you can ride a line just between the gutter and the right car tire zone it should be ok. It looks like the rest of the roads are pretty good, with the Gorman and Tryon parts being outstanding. I haven't driven the other parts in a while though.

The lake is like most around here, high and muddy. It better warm up soon. I hate swimming in cold water. I gotta learn how to get out of a wetsuit quickly.

I've ridden it 3 x so far and LW and Tryon are fine, AF, once you pass Lake Johnson going back in has several rough patches.  One is coming through the intersection at Gorman, almost lost it there on my 2nd ride.  Rode it the 1st time in 37 minutes, with stop lights and cars...made me feel good...but I can accept that on race day people may call me toast!

As well, anyone up for an OWS at Lake Raleigh before the race?  I've never done a TRI so this baby is my first and I don't want to freak out once we get in the water.  Need 1 practice swim.

All in All I am hoping to have a great time, fun is the name of the game.  My cell is 919-612-1669 if folks want to arrange an OWS practice.

I'll be there! It'll be my first open water swim with a wetsuit.. so we'll see how that goes. Interesting. But, its not like I plan on finishing fast or anything. I'll be ecstatic if i'm not last! :D
See you all there... and i'm kinda used to potholes and bad roads ... and riding down a "quiet" road that desperately needs a bike lane.. so hopefully that will be fine on race day. o.O

hrliles - I'm impressed that you've ridden the course a few times. What does it turn out to be on distance?

As a side note, I'm trying to get up the nerve to do a practice swim. I just hate cold water. Go sun!

I just need ever little advantage that might help ..so some familiarity on the road may give my a minute extra.  Plus this is my first Tri so I dont want any susprises  Come on, lets all jump in on Fri or Sat before the race and do a a few 100's to acclimate
