Thanks for the water temp update...hmmm that makes my decision on what to do much harder...I think it is going to come down to a race time decision on wetsuit vs. no wetsuit.

Yup...that's what happened with me at last year's race.  I rented a sleeveless suit...couldn't decide if I wanted to use it, so I packed it in my race bag.  Put it on after I set up my transition area...then, in a spur-of-the-moment decision, I took it off and decided not to race with it.  The water was 77 degrees, so I didn't need it...I was happy with my decision, but felt like I wasted the money on the rental.  Oh well...I ended up buying a full-sleeve wetsuit later on, so now I don't have to go through that again.

Yeah I feel the same way...my husband might kill me for wasting the money on the rental...but oh well it bought me peace of mind if nothing else.

Tried my new wetsuit tonight, and regardless of the temperature I'm wearing it!!  It made me feel like I was Zooting, I mean zooming across the water.  Neat feeling, slippery.............

Thanks for the updates on the water temp/wetsuit debate. I too am totally freaking out about it. This is my first triathlon, as well as my first race of any type. I'm really annoyed with the cold weather I have not planned on wearing a wetsuit nor have I ever put on a wetsuit. I'm just hoping for that 75 degree weather I see in the forecasts (although it was really cold today!). Maybe by some act of god it will be 80 degrees the next couple of days (wishful thinking, I know).

Good luck everyone!

I hear ya, on the cold weather rant!  Earlier in the week, the forecast said near 80 for the weekend...but as the week went on, those temps began to drop a little bit everyday.  Now this morning's forecast said 73 for high on Sunday...so that means around race time, it will likely be in the 50's which is quite chilly, IMO.  Plus with all the rain we had yesterday (and supposedly more rain coming late tonight into tomorrow AM)...that water temp will probably drop a bit.  For those still sitting on the fence about wearing a wetsuit or not...I would definitely wear it, just for the fact that the air temp is going to be cool in the AM.

I have pretty much decided to wear the wetsuit...I think it is going to be cold enough that troubles I had in the pool last week won't be an issue...and I just need to slow down and relax (easier said than done)

I swam open water with a borrowed sleeveless wetsuit this morning.  LOVED IT!!
I was really suprised, because I'm a swimmer and didn't want anything to do with any extra "gear".  Less is more in my opinion.

But I felt like I barely needed to kick.  I think it will really save my legs for the bike and run.  No more sitting on the fence about whether or not to wear it.  Plus I was able to get it off fairly easily.  I was more worried about that than anything.

I haven't felt this excited or nervous in a VERY long time.  It's a good thing.  Can't wait to just get started.  8^)

GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!!

So ladies...how did everyone do on Sunday????  My hubby and I rode out there on our bikes to watch some of the race.  As I was standing there watching, it really made me wish that I was out there doing it with all of you!  I did this race last year, but didn't sign up for it this year...don't really know why either.  We stuck around just long enough to hear that the winner of the race had just crossed the finish line in 1:04...WOW!!!  Anyways...I hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable race!

It was my first tri and I had a FABULOUS time.

Did anyone think the swim course was perhaps short? I don't think there's any way my swim is as fast as it says it was.

Yup...I thought the same exact thing last year when I did it.  I know how long it takes me to swim 820yds...and I know the time recorded for me was way too fast for that distance.  The distance has got to be way off for that swim course.  I don't know how they measured it, but it can't be right.
