Overall Rank = 31/120
Age Group = 30-35
Age Group Rank = 8/21
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:30...had a bowl of porridge with some honey and an apple.

Washed it down with a couple of glasses of water.
Event warmup:

Basic stretching and light jogging. Not sure it made much difference - some confusion at the start held things up long enough to cool off a bit!
Run
  • 14m 53s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Started near the back of the field and spent most of the run going through people. Found my place a little after the turn but passed a couple more after that.
What would you do differently?:

Get better position for the start.
Transition 1
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Pretty quick out of the running shoes and into the bike shoes.

Fumbled getting helmet on a clipped in once onto the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Put helmet on before coming out of the transition (probably should've done that anyway).

Get my frickin' feet clipped in quicker!
Bike
  • 28m 4s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.38 mile/hr
Comments:

With the headwind I think I went out a bit too hard. I was spending too much time watching my speedometer and not liking what it was telling me, rather than listening to what my body was telling me.

Went past a lot of people on the bike (20+). Got past by one guy who looked more serious than me!
What would you do differently?:

Take it a hair easier into the wind.
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

2 velcro straps and another clip on my road shoes means they take a little fiddling to get off...could've been better.
What would you do differently?:

Pop the additional clip on my shoes earlier.
Run
  • 14m 39s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

Heavy legs coming off the bike, but not too bad.

Went out too hard for the first half mile and had to back off to almost a walk twice, but for only a handful of strides. Got into a decent rythym in the second mile.
What would you do differently?:

Try to pace myself better in the first part to be comfortable for the whole length.
Post race
Warm down:

Jog, then down to walk in the start-finish area.

Beer!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience.

Need better running endurance.

Event comments:

This was my first race and I think I picked a good one to start out with.

My cadence during the bike ride was pretty high. I don't have a sensor (yet) but I would guess it was 100-105. I could do with pulling back to 95-100 and pushing a bigger gear. Might help my legs be at a good speed come the run (not trying to go too fast).
