Hi everyone,

This is my first tri event...I picked it because so many of the reviews said it's a great introduction to the sport. I am very excited!!!

Any thoughts on the best way to turn in the pool? I am most comfortable with open turns. Do you duck under the lane rope before or after pushing off the wall? Or does everyone do it differently?

Do what feels comfortable to you.  This is your first tri so your only goal is to finish.

Everyone will do it a little differently. Me, I'll be doing a flip turn, pushing to go sub 6:30, possibly 6:00.  then again, this will be my third time down there.

glad you are doing the race.  It really is family friendly and spectator friendly becuase of how compact it is.

Looks like we are gonna get some good weather to boot!

OK I checked Monte's email and he says:

Also this year.... for those of you who will be here on Saturday night.... if you want to come by Saturday at 7:00 pm, I'll have the pool open and set up, so you can see how the swim will work, and you can swim it, too, if you want.  And I'll go through how the transition area works, and answer any questions you may have.  So if you are in town Saturday night, feel free to stop by and ask questions or check things out.

Guess I know my Saturday night plans! Anyone else?

Nope, driving down on Sunday, like I always do.  Well, I should say the wife/chauffeur/cheerleader/coach/counselor/sherpa is driving me down.

Creeping up there? hahaha...........24 mph winds SSW w/ 40 mph gusts.......................I hope Accuweather is off by about 20 mph..............but something is telling me it is pretty accurate. This will be my first year at Sullivan - group of 7 racing and 1 racing the Youth Tri. Got some Sullivan Vets in the group and a few Sullivan rookies such as myself. Personally...............as much as I hate the wind, I'll take it over cold and rain................but it is only Thursday!

Let's get this thing on!!!

Maybe we will get lucky and it will be a cross wind coming from straight South.  that will have the least impact.

The cross wind would be nice but you know it is going to be right in our faces going up that hill on the back of the double loop. That is really the only place that it hits you hard. Just get in the aero position and grind it out. It only a couple minutes of hard work.

Now it looks like isolated t-storms and wind.  Joy.  I am going Saturday night at 7:00 just to see everything.  Good luck to all of you.

Yep, by the time we are on that portion (that you do 2x ) the wind will be out of the SSW.  Right in our faces.  That means bust it hard going out and lean into it coming back.  Should be a blast.  Always is.

Be safe getting there everyone.  We are leaving in the morning and driving down.

See y'all tomorrow.

yes that was a very tough ride. Almost bought twice, but held aero position almost all the time except for a few of the turns.

The back stretch on the run was tough with the wind in your face also. After that bike the run was a lot more challenging then I was ready for. All-in-all, it was again a great race. I will definitaly be back for a third run at it next year.

I agree about the wind!!! Definitely the most blustery conditions I have ridden in. Is that what Kona is like for 112 miles? yikes...

Anyone know when results will be posted?

That was more wind than I have ever ridden in, or care to ride in again.  Really thought it was going to take the bike out from under me a few times.  Definately had an impact on my run time.  Great race though, will be back next year.

Up waiting to see results....

I think I saw a Spin City cycle guy out there with a camera. Hopefully we will get to see some pictures of all of us leaning on our bikes into the wind! I know it won't be as drastic as it felt, but it was enough to make me wish I hadn't lost as much weight as I had. I was afraid of being blown off my freaking bike!

I agree the wind was horrible and as a first timer on the course I thought I would never make it.  I surprised myself and when I was coming in felt like I could ride longer.  Then I got off my bike and realized just how tired I was.  I finished though and that is what matters.  I will be back next year.  As of this morning results were still not posted, I thought Monte said they would be up by last night.  I didn't get to meet any of you but I did meet a lot of really nice people.   Maybe next year.
