I think you can find a good middle ground.  I just bought a 30mm deep PT wheel and a wheel cover to go with it.  It's solid for training, but the cover makes it almost as effective as a disc for racing.  Not super light, but not too heavy either.

Check out this thread, which might help you out:

Depends- a PM is not always the answer, simply because to get the most out of it requires some type of systematic approach.  It's not as simple as slapping it on and having a magic number tell you good or bad.  It requires some time and analysis on a routine basis.  This also includes if you have a coach read the files.

But, if you're willing to invest the time, I'd say go for the PM.  Ideally, get a PT laced to a reliable aero rim, and you get your PM and race wheel.

Economically, you'll get greater returns from the PT, but that also depends on how much you race.

asuming the PM is what you want,

I would go training wheel if you can only do one.
you are going to gain WAY more by training smart all the time than just using it in a race.

you can always put a disk cover on it.

the other option, and the way i would go if i had the cash would be to build it into something like a hed jet 90, DEEP wheel right there, and not gonna hurt that one to train on it full time.

I' m going to be able to have a coach to read the file.  That will take some of the problems out of learning the numbers.
