Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5 and had a CliffBar, Propel and water. Drove down to the event and parked at the Dome. Ended up wearing pants, long sleeve base layer, jacket, and skull cap, which ended up probably being a bit too warm.
Event warmup:

Got there about 45mins early, found a spot for Patty, then went to find a Porta-John. Stretched while waiting in line and made it back and got in the middle of Corral 1 with about 5 mins to the start.

Comments:

My original goal for this race was 1:45. I started out by feel and went with the group and made it through the first 2 miles sub 15, which was well ahead of my goal pace. I was feeling good at this point and had run up on the 3:20 marathon pace group. I decided that I would hang with this group until the split going for a 1:40 and then see how I felt. This slowed my pace a bit, but I wanted to make sure that I was going to be able to make it through. I hit the 10K split at 47:27 (7:38 miles). I took the left at the split and enjoyed the relative flat into Highlands. I felt great all through the park and was basing my pace off of effort. The hill on 10th street coming out of the park and then up on Juniper definitely took it out of me. From this point, I was was trying to hang onto the pace and fighting it mentally. It was cool to run through GT and past their last cheering section. The final stretch down Marietta street seemed to take forever. I glanced down at the watch towards the end and saw 1:38, so I tried to pick it up even more. So close to 1:40, but there's always next time.
What would you do differently?:

More training mileage. Dress a bit cooler. Push through it!
Post race
Warm down:

Kept moving to prevent cramping and found my way over to the NAMC tent to hang out with the rest of the crew.

Event comments:

Definitely will be doing this race again.

I still cant beleive that this was your first half, and longest run. Very impressive debut. Congrats on smashing your goal! I really dislike being in your age group now

I still say you are insane.  That just isn't right to blow the doors off a race when it is your first time.  Very impressive.
