Swim
Comments: Really not that great of a swim. I felt good for the first 200 yards or so, but I lost my rhythm for some reason. I kept sighting every 40 strokes or so to see if I was on course, but couldn't see a whole lot due to the sun in our faces. I think I swam a pretty straight course. Overall an okay swim, I guess . What would you do differently?: Not go out so hard, but I was at the front, so I didn't have much choice. Maybe position myself a little better. Transition 1
Comments: What the HELL was I doing for FOUR MINUTES???? I don't remember it taking that long to be honest. Oh well, live and learn, at least T2 was respectable. What would you do differently?: MOVE FASTER!!! Bike
Comments: Here's where I wanted to DROP THE HAMMER. Well, instead of dropping the hammer I DROPPED MY CHAIN and twisted it all up in the process. I really thought my day was done. I got off the bike and waited around for a while, thinking my chain was screwed beyond repair. After a few minutes, literally, I looked down, and decided I should at least TRY to fix it. I grabbed the chain and yanked and it came loose and I wrapped it around the big chain ring and got moving again. I wanted to make up lost ground, so I really hammered. I was averaging around 20 before I dropped the chain. I lost a few minutes tinkering with it getting it fixed, but I HAMMERED the rest of the way back to T2 and still ended up averaging over 20 mph. I REALLY wish that wouldn't have happened, I'd have loved to see what the average would've been without that snafu. Oh well, live and learn I guess. What would you do differently?: NOT DROP MY CHAIN!! Transition 2
Comments: I MOVED through this transition, hoping to make up more ground on the TONS of people in my AG that passed me back after I dropped my chain. What would you do differently?: I want to practice the flying dismount. Imagine if I already had my cycling shoes off before I entered T2, I could've gotten out of there in under 30 seconds! Run
Comments: My first mile was 7:51 or so. I really suffered from hammering the rest of the bike to make up time. But I was able to find a stride for the second mile and try to make up some more time. My goal was to run the 2 miles at around 7:00/mile pace. All things considered, I'll take it. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Just screw-ups. I really had the ability to nail this race today. I wanted to do better, but I did as best as I could given the circumstances, I guess. I'll catch em next time. It was just demoralizing passing TONS of people on the bike only to catch a hard break like that and have them pass me back, and have to really smash my legs to get back some of the time . . Ran a 1/2 mile to get warmed up. Then I put on my wetsuit, which was another warm up.
