There are only two days until the Galveston triathlon festival. The sprint will be on Saturday and the Oly and 1/2 IM are on Sunday.

I've seen notes that several BTers will be there. Is anyone planning to get together after the sprint on Saturday? I will be doing the sprint Saturday morning and then driving back to Houston Saturday afternoon.

How about a roll call for Saturday?

Hmmm, still no one responding... I know I've heard several people going. I know slucas is doing the sprint on Saturday, I'm in the oly on Sunday and my swim coach is doing the half im on Sunday.

I would have done this one, but it came up to fast for me. I still would do the sprint, but have no info about it, can you give me a link. If regestration is still open, I might do it.

For those that will be there Saturday I noticed that there will be a carbo dinner at the host hotel that is free to participants and $14 for guests, Saturday from 5 to 7 pm.

freeswimmingfish, the website is tritexas.com

I thought the dinner was free to the Half IM participants, not the rest of us, but perhaps I misunderstood.

I did a consulting gig in Houston for 9 months about 2 years ago. Since I am from Southern California and lived here all my life, I was missing the beach life and decided to go to Galvestan area to go swimming. GROSS!!!!!! I hope you are not swimming in what I saw over there. It didn't look too clean

It will be in the bay and not on the ocean side, but I'm sure it's still not California-ocean pretty, but hopefully it will be fairly calm water.

Is it just me, or does it look like a long ways from the swim to transition based on their cute little map? However, I've never been to Moody Gardens, so perhaps the map is really out of scale.

I've been to Moody Gardens and have swam in Offats Bayou (One of the reasons I felt comfortable enough to make it my first Tri) and it does look like like it is a ways to go after getting out of the water (maybe 1/4 - 1/3 a mile?). On the flip side - the wind is howling out of the north right now (15 MPH with gusts to 25 MPH!) in Houston and I saw they had a small craft advisory on the coast, so we might get some chop like last weekend - but it'll push you off the beach and into the transition zone :D

I'm not a meteorologist, but I am staying in a Holiday Inn Express Tonight...
