No Charts this week (again) as I have not been diligently tracking my calorie intake. I will however do that this week for sure.

I have managed to drop 2lbs this week - down to 261lbs - which is pleasing. I have lost a lot of momentum and getting back into a routine is proving a challenge.

Last Friday I got a 65km ride in and followed up with another 65km ride on Saturday. Yesterday I did my scheduled 14km run as part of my Half Marathon training program.

The run was the most pleasing as I averaged a 6min 13sec/km pace for the 14kms. My 10km time was 62min 04sec which is a PR for me and showed that I can hold a 6min 13sec pace for, well, as long as I run. I did feel that I needed a Gel or something to keep going but I will add that to my training in future runs.

So, although I am way behind my target weight - having yo-yo'd over the last few weeks - I am reasonably happy with my athletic performance to date.

How is everyone else doing???

Off the rails a bit over the weekend but back on track now.

Has been a good month training wise so not too bothered. Run and swim just about doubled from last month.  Looking forward to next month.

Maybe there is something in the air.  I had a washout of a day yesterday-hardly moved from one spot on the couch.  Back at it today.

Oh contraire my good man, went for a 75km ride. The upside of this freezing weather is that you don't feel yoru legs!

I have been a bit slack updating these last couple of weeks. I managed to chart last week's calorie data but didn't get a chance to post as work has seen me out of the office a whole lot.

I have managed to hold my weight (around 260lbs) and although the target keeps slipping further and further away I am re-assessing and have decided that if I can maintain my weight over the depths of Winter I consider it a win.

This week I went on a new bunch ride on Monday which was great. Tuesday I didn't get out. Wednesday I was up for an early morning ride with a frind. Last night I did a 7km run, and it was one of my best runs to date. This morning I was out for a 75km ride with the boys for my usual 'Friendly Friday'; which is fast becoming 'Furious Friday'. Tomorrow I am riding with antoher bunch and plan on doing 90+km. Sunday sees me with another long run - 16km.

I have 'let go' on the diet a little which is why I am at a plateau, but as I said if I can maintain my weight over Winter I will hit Spring hard and watch the pounds melt away...

You B'stard.

I was using you as my excuse not to go out. Had 45 min run planned but it sounded to me like it was blowing a gale and hissing down so I went back to bed.

I feel all guilty now. At least I can do it after work though. I might even add an extra 15 mins on as we have Nando's at work every Friday for lunch. The wrap isn't too bad but the chips and ribs dripping in extra hot sauce are going to go straight to my hips.

Trainer, Spinervals, and a fan in the garage and you're all set to rock the bike all winter long.  Also, you can search on BT for Jorge's winter cycling program.  The amazing JorgeM does a little program that lots of Ameri-landers follow during our winter months.  Brutal but great offseason cycling thing.

An Update...

It's been a couple of weeks since I last updated my status. I have not been logging my calorie intake so I don't have charts to report on. I have also been keeping off the scale although I did take a peak on the weekend. I am maintaining at around 260lbs, which is pleasing.

I had a chart targeted my anticipated weight-loss and although that target is getting further, and further away I am happy with the fact tha I am not putting weight on over Winter. I figure if I can maintain my weight through the Winter I will be well placed to recommence the assault come Spring.

I am doing very well with my training however, particularly my running. Early last week I managed, for the first time, to go under an hour for 10km, recording a PR of 57:27 (5:44min/km pace).

I followed that up with another sub 60 minute 10km run yesterday. The best part of this run however was that it was part of a 16km run that I also PR'd - averaging 5:54min/km pace.

This puts me on track to do a 2hour Half Marathon in two weeks time. If I can manage that it will mean that I have been able to better last year's Half Marathon by over 45 minutes!!

So, if I can get through the depths of Winter without 'blowing out' then I will be in great shape (metaphorically and literally) for Spring.

Feeling good......

Wow Gus.  This is impressive in terms of will power.  I believe it takes more will power to maintain then to loose.

I just thought you guys and gals would like to know, there is a "nutrition" challenge that's just starting up over in the Challenge Forum, I believe that Q is the thread starter.  As we all struggle with food, hence our haning out in the weight loss forum, some people may find this helpful.  I know I'm playing along, and will come up with a goal as soon as I can think of one.  Well, a goal that's not "look like Brad Pitt."  He grows a much better beard than I, so it's just a goal doomed to fail.

Ah Hubris! Just when I thought everything was going along just fine I managed to get a Cold. I refuse to accept that it is anythimg more than a Cold and I am adament that I will be fit and firing come race day in 10 days time.

Strange thing is I recall suffering the same fate last year. I remember that around this time out from race day I was 'under the weather'. Maybe the stress is building and I need to back off just a little.

I missed my ride this morning for a little extra shut-eye and that did help. I haven't run since last Sunday's 16km effort and I am concerned that I may be a little under-done in the mileage department. The balancing act between getting the volume in and resting is tough. It may be fine when you are a Pro athlete and that is all you need to worry about but when you have a full-time job AND a part-time gig AND a Family as well the balancing act becomes a little more difficult.

Anyway, just thought I'd give a little update for those of you that check my logs and were wondering why my training has been a little 'down' this week.

I know, I know HTFU Pricess!!

Hey there, keep on keeping on.  This is where ya get extra points in my book!  Do the absolute best you can to keep twitching, healing and living your life.

(Chader and I often seem like good cop/bad cop)

Also I've never seen anyone try for a weight mantainence goal in the midst of weight loss.  I'd love to see someone do it or better yet someone try to gain LESS weight over a period of time.  These seem to be entirely valid goals but I've yet to see it.

Keep up the great work, It takes time but when your finally at your goal weight you will be very happy with yourself, Sometimes taking a break here and there for a week or so will help in recovery and also to keep your mind fresh and not to get discouraged and burnt out from always having to work out, I lost 110 pounds in just over 2 years it was hell but well worth it in the end.

Keep it up,  Your doing Great !!

It's now only two days until the Half Marathon and, unlike last year, I am really looking forward to running this one.

My goal(s) for this race, yes there are a few, indicate how far I have come since last year.

First of all, my goal is to run the entire distance. Last year I adopted a run/walk strategy that served me well however this year I am confident that I can run the entire distance. That in itself will be a big achievement.

Secondly, I would like to get below 2:14:30 for the 21.1km as this would mean that I knocked 30 minutes off last year's time.

Thirdly, my 'Primary Goal' is to average 6min/km pace for the duration. This will give me a time of 2:06:36. I ran 16km at 5:52min/km pace a couple of weeks ago so I am confident  of achieving this. Pacing myself initially will be the challenge. However, I will be very happy if I do achieve this.

Finally, my stretch goal, is to get under 2 hours. If all the planets align and I am 'on' come race day then a sub 2 hour run is possible. I would be elated if I can achieve that however it would mean a big negative split in the race as I plan on holding a 6min/km pace initially. Finishing under 2 hours means an average 5:44min/km. That would mean a pretty solid effort in the back half.

But, you never know on race day.

Good luck to all the runners. I will post a race report on Monday....

Here's a link my race report for the half marathon I ran on the weekend

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=259223&posts=1&start=1

I got to check off a couple of the goals as done....

I ran the entire way - save for a moment to stretch beacuse of severe cramping

I went under 2:14:30 which saw me beat last year's time by over 30 minutes

I missed my goal of 6:00min/km pace, and I missed my stretch goal of sub 2 hours.

All things considered I am very happy with my result. Now I need to decide if I am going to do the Half again next year and shoot for a sub 2 hour time or whether I take a crack at the Full Marathon! Decisions, decisions....
