Pre-race routine:

The race didn't start until 10:00 AM so I got to sleep in until about 8:15 before I showered and had some water. My plan for this race was to not eat anything because I have really battled throwing up during these short 5k's. I was hungry but didn't take anything for it.
Event warmup:

Jogged for five minutes and stretched some. Needed to spend a little extra time getting warmed up today but the race actually started on time so I rushed to the line.

Comments:

The course was a tough one today. We race down to the Delaware River and then all the way back up. That meant the final two miles were primarily uphill. I had a solid first mile of 6:18, but my pace fell after that point.

The second mile was uphill and I got lost in the race. I spent too much time thinking about my legs and the pain in my stomach and hoping I wouldn't throw up rather than keeping my form efficient and turnover quick. I faded about 20 seconds per mile the whole race. The race finished on the track and I coasted to the finish. I had some energy left, but I didn't sprint which I now regret.

On the positive side I did come in with a one second PR on a tough course. Also I did have stomach issues but I didn't full out throw up which was encouraging. But I think this is the last race I am going to rush out of the gate. I can't positive split like this anymore. It hurts too much.
What would you do differently?:

Focus more on the race and less of the surroundings.
Even out my splits, and trust in myself more.
Post race
Warm down:

Ran for about 20 minutes to let the legs cool off. Checked out the results and saw I was sixth in the AG so I headed home afterwards. Good food though!

PR on a tough course is awesome.  You need to focus on nothing!  Get in a zoned out state and go with it. That is the key to racing fast!  Nice work.

PR on a tougher course, that means you know it would have been more if the course was flat!  Great job, especially not puking!
