It's a big hill!
I ran it a few times last year, spectating, while the athletes were on the bike course. It's tough. But doable. They have timing mats at the top and bottom and give awards to the fastest up the hill.

Also - is there going to be a BT tent this year? My boyfriend (climbin5414) is jock-strapping and might be interested in having some beverages with the BTers there... hadn't heard a peep about a BT tent or gathering yet....

kendallwebb - 2009-09-16 8:17 AM Does anybody have a picture of Quadzilla? I would like to know what I am getting my self into . Any pictures of the course would be nice as well.

Thanks.

It's small.  One of those times where "everything's bigger in Texas" just doesn't apply.

From the athlete guide:
All athletes must be out of the transition area by 7:30 am when the first swim wave starts.

I would not gamble with trying to show up later, but that's just me.

Quadzilla's not in the course anymore per the maps they released.

Any updates on Water Temps?Answered my own question: http://www.anglerguide.com/texas/index.cfm?TR_ID=242181degrees so does that mean wetsuits are not allowed? Looks like 78 degrees is cutoff.

No Quadzilla this year, unless the offroad portions improve a bunch in the next week. The drought really created some bad footing out there. I just ran it the other day, and I don't want to send folks out there and get a bunch of sprained ankles...

Of course, now it's raining quite a bit, so alot of those issues may clear up.
We need to plan far enough in advance, with aid stations, etc and became concerned that it was just too dusty, too many BIG cracks, etc.

So, at this point, it'll be ALL asphalt run. We have plenty of special surprises (the good kind) for you on the run

Cold front coming through tonight so hopefully the cooler temperatures will drop the water temp somewhat. All I can say is if it was wetsuit legal last year I'll be shocked if it isn't this year as well.

I'd bring it. Worst case is that it stays in the hotel or even in your dry clothes bag in the morning.
I've come to a race where I thought "NO WAY it will be wetsuit legal" and whadda ya know... it was (the heat index reached 105 that day, as it had all week). And I didn't have mine. It showed on the swim times.

Does anyone know if the Sunday dinner is sold out?  I tried the link from the race site and I get a box with a "submit" button only and nothing to select.  Hit the "submit" button and it wants me to select something that is not there.  Any guidance on this? Thanks.

Thanks guys, appreciate the info.  Yes definately bringing the wetsuit, going without just changes the entire pace strategy.  Hope to meet many of you down in Austin in a couple weeks.

This thread's killing me. I loved this race. Great bike course.

I really need to go back and take my revenge on Quadzilla for what it did to me last time*.

* Actually I was severely undertrained, but that hill was a nice excuse so I'm going with that.

you should see what we have cooking for this year
BTW, a big cold front just blew in...it was 82 at 5 am today. It's 57 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) right now. Just got a ton of rain, too. Going to be mid 70's this weekend....

I'm pretty sure it'll be wetsuit legal....

I was kind of kidding, but sitting around for 2 hours pre race is not ideal for me. Too much time to think!

Anyone have any idea how the winds have been lately in this part of Austin?
Do you think we should set up with ZIP 808 on front and back or 404 on front and 808 on back?

Looks like the temperature is at 81 right now, this should allow the non-elite athletes to wear the wetsuits.
