Anyone else planning on doing this race? I went to Texas State, but that was before my triathlon days. Any tips?  Sounds like the bike course was poorly marked/volunteers lacking after reading some of the race reports.

I'll be there. First race of the year for me so we'll see how it goes. I agree it sounds like the bike could be a bit confusing, but I am looking forward to swimming in the aquarena since they normally don't let anyone.

I'll be there, since it's a collegiate race.  Don't know much about the bike, however - it will be my first year as well.

I did it two years ago when it was in July, though I'm not planning on it this year.

Personally I think this is a "must-do" triathlon just for the swim.  The water is clear, you can see fish and water plants all the way to the bottom of the spring, and something about a swimming pig.  Kind of like swimming in Hawaii, just not as tropical and colorful.  Apparently it's open for swimming just once or twice a year because too many swimmers will screw with the delicate ecosystem.

How late on Friday were you thinking? Traffic on 35 starts to be a b**** after around 3:30pm

edit: are you talking the weekend of the race or this coming Friday?

I will be there.  I live just down the road in Cibolo, so it isn't too far away.  I'll ride up that way this weekend and see if I can't send you all a report on what's what...

I was talking about the Friday of the race.  I'm shooting to be in town around 4 so anytime around then I guess.

I did the race last year.  No drama on the bike course.  I found my way out and back just fine.  Also, the volunteers were fine.  I believe most of them are from the Texas State tri team.

I love the swim.  It's like swimming in an aquarium.
This is my first race of the season and first tri race on the new tri bike.  I'm looking forward to seeing what the new bike will do in a tri.  It went quite well in a duathlon last fall.

Last year was my first for this event and it is already one of my favorites.  Might have helped that a buddy had his first ever placing there last year. Smile

This is a great race. Last year the volunteer at the last turn was not there (busy talking to a cute co-ed) and a pack of us went right through it. May have caused my 30 seconds at most. The swim is amazing! The run is nice and flat. I love that they moved it to April, being a TSU grad, starting the season off here is pretty cool.

Did this race two years ago.

Easily the most poorly put on race I've ever done.

While I did do it just for the swim, (and trust me it was amazing!) the swim alone isn't enough to make this race worth the time or effort.

When I raced it, there were maybe 2 volunteers on the bike course, and the run course had ZERO volunteers. (did i mentioned it wasn't marked?) Anyways, first and second overall got DQd because they didn't know the run course.

Crap race.

So is everyone doing wetsuits for this race? Isn't the water supposed to be around 68F?

I'll be wearing one. I didn't last year though. The water is 72 degrees year round.

I did not last year and won't this year.  Last year the water temp was warmer than the air temp.  I hope that's not the case this year.

Last year was 44 degrees at race time if I remember correctly. My feet were frozen during the run, it felt like running on broken glass.

I won't be competing because I waited too long to register (whoops...), but I will be there, probably volunteering, as everyone else from team is competing (UNT Tri team).  I kind of look forward to traveling to a race and not having to haul my bike/transition bag/wetsuit with me.  I could just... carpool... and not have to worry about where all my stuff is going to go...

Does anyone else remember the movie "Piranha" that was filmed at Aquarena?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078087/

I hope they cleared out all of the piranha after filming that movie Cool

If the fish keep you out of the water is that a DNF or a DNS?  Don't think they will be able to get thru the wetsuit....
