river runs through it - long

it is a nice ride.....

I counted 97 "turns".  But, Route 12 would also suck to ride on.  So, I'm down for following Cat through central mass (if I can keep up).

but I already have it in my garmin 305 and it actually worked for that ride....in addition to cue sheet....

I agree with everyone sticking together - I have been instructed to ride easy....by my swim coach....and we can just wait at turns....
I did this ride once and it was a nice ride.  and as I recall the road markings were still in place so I only looked at that and the garmin on my wrist....

Sounds great.  I'm excited.  Josh said that he wanted to run 13 after the bike so I think we should all oblige him.

Sorry, only one 13 mile run a week for me.  You are more than welcome to continue on.

Oh right.  Josh wanted to hammer out a 20 miler

That sounds pretty good to me Matt.  Yes, I do want to do a HIM on race day in September, but not tomorrow...

I was just teasing about Josh wanting to do 13.  It was a bad joke.  He recently did a 13.1 miler on zero notice as a HIM relay member.

6 sounds like plenty enough of a challenge to me as well.

Now that the sun has decided to come out and we've got the 4th of July behind us, I think it's time to get some groups out to Walden.

Anyone going this weekend?

I was just out there.   I didn't see the sign although I did hear about it.    Basically the pond is flooded, so the concrete wall over to the left of the beach, heading to the baot ramp, is completely underwater.   Spoke with ranger who said they prefer no one to swim because of the underwater obstacles now, but if you must swim...swim at your own risk.   Stay off the shoreline and you should be fine.

We swam last weekend, and the ranger was right there saying swim at your own risk. They just want people being careful. There were a TON of people wading in the water with the hot sun and a few folks swimming. wife and I went and had no problems.

I took a swim there on Sat morning around 8 am.  There were probably 40 others in wetsuits either just starting or finishing up.

Other then being extremely cold it was a nice day for a swim.

Great News! thanks guys and gals I was worried but it occurred to me that "no swimming" is often just their way of escaping liability if someone gets hurt. It is the same with other places with ropes. The signs say "no swimming outside designated area" but it seems rare that someone get all "ranger dan" on you.

But do let me know if anyone EVER gets a ticket for swimming anywhere in MA.

Can we swim the whole lengths of the pond?? I was there in the winter hoping, but I've seen pictures from the summer where they bar off only a small area for swimming...

As far as Walden Pond is concerned you can.  There is a swim area roped off with lifeguards but no one will bother you if you just swim past it.  There is actually a small space on the right side of the ropes most people start from.

Obviously swim at your own risk
