Pre-race routine:

Breakfast....get ready....drive to Denver. Hang out. Found Brett (Alpine87), his cousin Drew, and a woman from my Master's swim! Had a Clif Shot with caffeine minutes before the start.
Event warmup:

basically.....NONE! I like to talk too much
Run
  • 2h 04m 42s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt great for a while. Ran the first 5 miles in under a 9 min/mi pace! Amazing for me. Gel at mile 6 and 10. Around mile 8, felt fatigued, so I started walking a minute every mile.

Once I came around the corner and saw the finish .25 miles away, I took off because I was so excited to finish! THAT was such a great feeling. Erik and Tara were near the finish.
What would you do differently?:

I'm not sure if I need to learn to pace myself or if I just need to learn to run faster over the long haul?

I also need to position myself a little further up in the crowd. With 1000+ runners, I had to navigate through all the people for about the first mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Chilled out with Brett, his family, and my family. The sun came out which was GREAT! Had a difficult time eating, as usual. Got down a 1/2 of a Clif Bar, and lots of water. Stretched a lot too. My quads are tight.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really....just my genetics I guess. I WANT TO RUN FASTER! :)

Event comments:

Great race....I'll do it again. I did this race 2 years ago and it was the breaking point for my knee that had subsequent surgery. It was GREAT to go back and TAKE THE COURSE! I'm pretty darn happy with my time, but definitely want to run faster in the future!

AWESOME RUN, Cathy - and congrats on hitting your goal time !

And to think you WALKED for roughly 6 or so minutes AND STILL hit your time.  That speaks volumes.

I think you paced yourself fine.  I *love* how you ATTACKED the start .  Remember that you hopped into a training program in mid-stream...if you had started from week 1, I bet you could have held your sub 9 minute pace and not walked.  Me thinks you are just beginning to scratch the surface of your abilities

Keep pushing... I like that you are not satisfied!

I'm so bummed that I didn't get to see you guys - I forgot it was daylight savings and woke up too late to get down there on time   What a loser....

Hey Cathy, great run!!  Well done.  You must be very happy with yourself...you should be!!

I'm with Fromer, I think you are not even close to realising your true potential as a "runner".  Heck, look at those legs, they look like running legs to me!!

Cathy,

Great smile! Love you girl. You rocked that course. Kicking butt and taking names. Add another 13.1 and you're good to go. See you're doing 5430 Long Course! Woo Hoo. I'm thinking about doing it too. I just can't wait until September. Way to go on the 1/2 Mary. Proud of you. Ovetta.

Great job, Cathy! You are really living it up. 1000 + runners sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to try one of those marathons some day, perhaps on my next visit to the U.S.

I'll be looking forward to seeing your next race results. You are amazing, girl. Keep on!
