I'd be interested in the morning on Sunday or possibly Monday (need to iron out plans on that one).  If my other plans don't work out, I'd prefer Monday.

I am keen to try out Christmas Lake.  If anyone's up for the drive, that's what I would recommend...

I got a WICKED burn on my neck from my wetsuit this Sunday after my Oly swim, so I want to see if Body Glide will be enough before I have to race again.

I'd go on that Sunday.  Probably working on Memorial Day, and I'm another person who needs to try my wetsuit before racing the following weekend.  And having no ows experience, I'll travel to Christmas lake or any other lake for the practice.

I'm out of town until the 1st of June but am just like everyone else here. Want to get some OWS time in before my first race. I am free for 2 weeks after Memorial Day if anyone wants a swim buddy.

Not yet, but I've got New Brighton in 2 weeks.  If I plan a swim in Nokomis, I'll let the group know.

I typically swim in the morning at 6:30am, or after work on my way home (variable).  Have gone after work as early as 4pm and as late as 6pm.  A little less effective when the beach is guarded (after Memorial Day), because then there's the periodic mandatory lifeguard break when everyone needs to leave the water (the guards let you swim laps just outside the buoys.

I'm starting to get nervous too.  I typically like to do nothing but open water swims after Memorial Day.

My thoughts exactly!  Hope this warm weather is raising lake temps a bit. I cant believe NB is only a couple weeks out.

I'm planning on doing my first OWS swim of the year this Saturday morning at Nokomis.  I'd like to be there by 7:00am.  Anyone else planning on being there in the morning?

Where do you go?  I'd like to get my first OWS ever in this weekend, and not sure Monday will work.  If my wife doesn't go into labor, I'd love to meet someone there to show me the ropes a bit.  I can be there by 7 no problem.

Actually I have never swam at Nokomis, I just moved from Brooklyn Park to South Minneapolis about a month ago.

I currently run around the lake a few times a week and am planning on swimming just outside the ropes at the larger of the two swimming areas.  I believe that would be on the west side of the lake.

That swimming area is the one near the ballfields, correct?  I'll be the guy in the sleeveless Xterra wetsuit, can't be too many there, but if there are I'm Dustin and have some eyes tattooed on my right arm.

Yes, it's the beach on the west (northwest) side of the lake.  The buoys should be out in prep for Memorial Day.  Most likely no guard there until 10am or so.

Sorry guys, would have loved to have joined you, but our family is hosting a bike trip from Mendota Heights out to Minnehaha falls with a few other families.  Kids ranging in age from 2 to 16.  So I'll be working hard early tomorrow morning making sure everyone's bikes are in working order, getting bike trailers, bike racks, trailers and food organized.

Have a great, safe swim.  BTW, have never seen anyone ticketed for swimming outside the buoys (water about 4 feet just outside the buoys), but there were a few incidents of swimmers getting ticketed for swimming ACROSS the lake unaided last year.

I’m luck enough to be on vacation this week with no where to go.  If I could join someone on a weekday OWS, I’d love to get the experience.  Or, if anyone would like to meet up at Nokomis, the only OWS area I’m familiar with, I’m going to be there at 7:30 tomorrow.

Lake Nokomis was bumping this morning at 6:00 am.  I believe there were a few members from the YMCA tri club along with a number of individuals training independently.  There were probably around 10 people this morning.

The water temp was perfect for a sleeveless wetsuit

I swam at Bryant Lake Regional Park last night and I really liked it!  A big fancy beach, with bathrooms and outside showers, but no fee for entry.  Awesome.  I am sure those of you in the EP area are familiar with it, but if not I would recommend it.

The swimming area is pretty small, but there was no lifeguard.  There were unruly teens regularly going over the line into the "no swim" area before the "no boat" markers.  The very edge of the swim area was deep enough for me to swim and I'd guess about 50 yards wide.  Very clear, sandy bottom.

I have heard it can get busy.  I am going to try it right when it opens some day and see how that goes.

Does anyone have any suggestions toward the rogers/elk river area to open water swim?

You could go down to the Elm Creek Park Reserve.  Beaches unguarded and free, although probably busy.

East-siders, take a look at Lake Jane. It's no wake until noon and people living on the lake are swimmer friendly. My kids just finished a 2 week red cross swim lessons given at the lake.

So with the beach at Elm Creek Park Reserve, is that a manmade lake?  Its says there is a $3 swim pass when I drove there this morning to check it out.  Is there another lake you are talking about?

Sorry!  I was basing that on my experiences at other Three Rivers parks.   I see now that Elm Creek has a "swim pond" which does require a pass.  Apparently that's the case there and Minnetonka.  Oops!

Need some OWS ideas!  I'm thinking of trying to sneak in a swim on Saturday when we come up to pick up our packets for the Minneapolis Duathlon.  I *think* packet pickup is around W.River and 3rd.  Ideas for a swim?

Tis the season, I'm going to swim at Nokomis in the morning.  Not much of a notice, but I can be there at a specific time if anyone wants to join me.
