Hey all! Sorry, Jorge did not get to see you! Awesome job!!! Worlds, here comes Jorge!!! Yeah baby!! I was in the med tent all day after MY race (working...doing IV's etc...NOT being treated!) so did not see your finish!

I did see Mark Russell, had a really tough off road race, nice to meet you though Mark!
Saw Dave Millers results, nice job! (but sorry didn't meet you!)

Did not see Jen Drake (artemis) or Rick Carter (daremo) in the results. Hope you are both ok, not sure if you didn't make here, or were one of the heat casualties that did not come to the med tent when I was there.

It was a great experience (nope, didn't qualify, but thats ok!), fun bike course, TON of heat and blue skies!!

Rick and Jen WERE here!! So ironic, I actually took care of Jen in the med tent (see her race report) and did not know it was her until I read her race report!
Rick wasn't feeling well, and had to pull out also.

So sorry for you guys...but there were ALOT of DNFs today. HOT HOT HOT!

I don't know what the heck was/is going on with me.  Legs just had nothing in them at all and I was totally fatigued from the starting horn.  Really strange.

Oh well, I'm not bummed/upset about DNF'ing, just really perplexed as to why I had the day that I did.  With another race next weekend I'm a little concerned ........

Hey, thanks for taking care of me in the Med tent, sorry i wasn't a happy patient and didn't say goodbye or good luck.  I left and drove to my coach's house and took a cold shower and laid down for a while, felt human again around 4pm.

The heat absolutely crushed me.  Felt it on the first run, thought I'd tough it out on the bike and grit my way thru the second run.  Well, on the bike, the race quickly became a ride, then a death march, then I just wanted to somehow make it to T2.  My first non-mechanical DNF.

I'm racing this weekend, I hope my body recovers...

thanks again

I didn't realize it was you, either, and you were wearing a name tag!!  Guess that's an indication of how out of it I was yesterday.  Thanks again, Pam!!

It was SO hot.  I was not prepared for that.  It would have been nice to have some more tents set up to provide more shade.

At least I didn't get stopped by a TRAIN!!! for 9:25 minutes like Jorge did!!! Can you believe that! Jen and Mark hope to meet you under better circumstances, but that said, I'll take care of any of you in the med tent to the best of my abiliity.

Oh and Mark, can you PM me Matt's email address? (your MD friend I was working with!)

Hi everyone,

sorry I didn't get to meet you guys on saturday I was getting dehydrated (lol) expectating for my coach Kurt Perham and my friend Brian who both did the off- race. I was seating at the Dig-It booth with Jason (another coach) next to the skins guy. I had fun at the race regardless of the train debacle and the crazy heat after the balmy 50s F days we've had up here in New Englad.

This is from my log today:

Results for Duathlon Nationals are up and due to the train debacle the overall results and finishing time splits are wrong. It seems they took the time off we lost waiting for the train but they took TOO MUCH! They have me down for a finishing time of 2:02:28 hrs with a 1st run fo 35:46 min and I did NOT run that fast (I wish I did ). During the race as soon as I got the the train I hit the lap button and then I did so again when we re-started and I lost 9:25 min waiting. we all waited to start together again except two guys that cheated and got a head start but we catched them and repassed them before T1 and they got a nice choice of words from most of us

Adding all my splits up based on my watch I finished on 2:04:30 hrs, which is 2 minutes slower than the official results. I don't care much anyway as for me it was more of a hard training day (especially due to the heat) but I feel bad for the leaders or those going for overall awards. But besides the train issue I liked the race very much and I thought it was very well run. The heat made it tough but it was a good test for my fitness and see how hard I need to work the next 10 weeks.

The good: legs felt good ( no major aches or pains), I did a good job pacing and fueling cuz I raced as good as my fitness level allowed under those conditions, I survived the heat which was a good thing to see considering the hottes day i've seen this year (except for Cancun vacation) was mid 50s, I enjoyed wearing compression socks not for performance but for the snuggle feel on my calves and with the crazy heat by pouring water on it had a cooling effect, it wasn't an A race and still finished top 10.

The bad: don't ride your tri bike for the 1st time during a race (I felt rusty riding skills wise), I am not happy with my saddle but I'll give it some adaptation time on the road before changing it, my legs had no pop during the bike which maybe was due to the 1st run or cuz I didn't train two days before the race (I hate doing that, won't doing it again), the bike continues to be a weakness but even with my slow split I was only passed by 2 dudes on the bike and looking at the results besides the top 10 OA I wasn't too much slower.

I am not feeling too bad today which is a good sign of fitness and that I did a good job post race (refueling, compression, icing, stretching, etc)

Hopefully we can meet next year!
