Comments:

Holy F that was cold. My body did not react kindly to that water. I'm surprised no one tried to jump in to save me. I was probably 2/3 of the way through the swim before I felt like my stroke settled down. Unpleasant
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

I walked a fair amount during this. My hands were very cold and my speech was slurred when I tried to talk. Again, why didn't anyone try to rescue me?

Comments:

I have never felt faster on a bike compared to the people around me. 'twas a good feeling. NP was 252. I didn't have the guts to race it at threshold, so I left some on the table. One of these days I'll get over it. The run wouldn't have suffered from another 20-25 watts spent on the course, I don't think.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

A cross dismount is not the time to find out your feet are completely numb. I couldn't run during this because I couldn't feel anything from the balls of my feet forward. There's almost an extra minute spent in transition compared to last year & it's 100% due to the cold.
Run
  • 22m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

This is a harder run than I remember. There is never a flat stretch and right of of T2 is the biggest hill. There are no real hills other than that, just long slight up/down hills.

I feel good going into White Lake.

Way to go on 2nd place age group, and winning a stool. You should post a pic of it! What exactly was the water temp?

Congrats Tommy!  Great race.  You ROCKED the bike -- 3rd overall!  Wow!  You are definitely ready to go sub-5:00 at WLH.

"Official" water temp was 66, and that was posted on Thursday.  I didn't hear a report the day of the race.  All I know is that the start was really a disaster b/c it shocked me so much.

Another amusing bit:  I seeded myself very aggressively (meaning I might have stretched the truth a bit on my 100y time they asked for to use for seeding).  I was seeded 62nd and had placed 42nd in the swim (including M&F) so I guess at least 20 people lied worse than me.

Nice race! The last time I swam in Belews Lake the water must have been in the mid to upper 80s!

Great roads for cycling around there, beautiful country for sure. I was born in High Point and used to ride my bike up to Belews Lake all the time. Again, good job on your race.

Stool schmool.  This is the pic I was waiting for.

Next time I should get Alice to do my toenails to match, just like she did.
