Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate oatmeal and a cup of coffee
Event warmup:

Um I think they closed the pool early, so I only got 100 meter warm up in.
Swim
  • 06m 32s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Ok, this was nuts. My only grrrrr part of the whole event. I was seeded fairly fast but I am a swimmer, so it was ok. They started the race, sent us one right after the other and we were off. Made it 100 meters and they stopped us, made us get out, and restart. Timing problem or something. Then someone seeded way back jumped to the front and yeah, that was pretty much a problem. Not real sure how he was allowed to do that, but I caught him within 75 meters, and everyone else did too, led to dog paddle and treading water at every wall. So other than that, it was pretty good. Just chaotic, and a little different.
What would you do differently?:

Well, I dont know, I guess for an indoor swim like this, practice flip turns going under the lane ropes. Who practices that??? I need to. Other than that, not really anything.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Gotta practice this!! seemed to take forever!!
What would you do differently?:

Practice, and probably clip the shoes onto my bike, I had a hard time running in my bike shoes.
Bike
  • 31m 17s
  • 10 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I actually think this was my favorite part of the tri. I could really see myself liking biking the best out of all three areas.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the bike a ton more!!!!!!!!
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

I found out I can't run in my biking shoes. The pavement was wet. The other horrible thing was I had everything in a trash bag because of the rain. It took me forever to get my running shoes out of that stupid thing!!
What would you do differently?:

Practice more. Run barefoot to the rack
Run
  • 23m 15s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Oh my God where are my legs!?!?! That sucked. I ran for what seemed like forever then all the sudden I see a sign that says "mile 1" What!!!! The guy next to me said the same thing. Actually pretty comical. Overall though, really happy. That is really tough though.
What would you do differently?:

Just run more. Lots more
Post race
Warm down:

Ate everything in sight.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience and definately have to train harder.

Event comments:

Really great race. The swim was a little crazy but this race was run flawlessly. I will definately do it again. Great time

Great job today! I was there and witnessed the start of the swim (I was in "I"). It was a cluster! I felt bad for all of you, but at least you got a warm-up in. By the time I got in the pool, it was mass chaos! Anyway, good job and enjoy the day!

Holy crap you're fast!  That's a fantastic first race!  And to run a 23min 5k when you can't feel your legs is great.  I heard about the swim start at lunch afterwards.  Doesn't sound like it was much fun.  Good luck in your next race!
