Carmel Swim Club

Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 15m 41s
Overall Rank = 290/573
Age Group = M2024
Age Group Rank = 15/18
Pre-race routine:

Drank 8oz water with white chocolate macadamea nut Clif Bar around 6:30, Drove to the high school, Vanilla GU 15 minutes before start
Event warmup:

100 meter swim just to get used to the water and the pool.
Swim
  • 07m 40s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

They started people about every 2 seconds so it ended up being a pile up at every wall. Came up under somebody on the first turn, after that I took my time at every wall so I wouldn't end up under somebody again. Hard to pass people who were swimming 4 wide, kindof had to swim at the people around me's pace.
What would you do differently?:

Be more careful around the turns so I don't end up running into and under people, push my way around people.
Transition 1
  • 03m 16s
Comments:

Everything was wet from the rain, but for something not ever practiced or done, it seemed alright.
What would you do differently?:

Set myself up a bit better so it all goes a bit smoother
Bike
  • 33m 38s
  • 10 miles
  • 17.84 mile/hr
Comments:

Once I figured out the whole passing thing (about 2.5 miles in) I started going really well. Since the course was wet I slowed down a bunch around every corner and over the speed bump, I didn't want to fall.
What would you do differently?:

Start out and don't get scared about passing people, know that I can go faster than I thought I could.
Transition 2
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

Ran in and racked my bike took off the helmet and ran out.
What would you do differently?:

Took my helmet off while running the bike.
Run
  • 29m 44s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs didn't like me at first, walked up the hill beside the high school, walked through the water station, other than that went pretty well, about the pace I would have wanted.
What would you do differently?:

Do more BRICK workouts, legs weren't ready for the change from biking to running.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit drinking a bottle of water and eating a banana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim - lanes not wide enough to pass people very easily
Bike - get used to passing people and just pass them instead of riding at their pace
Run - more brick workouts so legs get into the run quicker.

Event comments:

Well run race, wish the weather would have cooperated.

Nice race!  Was this your first?  The swim was definitely a bit rough with the number of people who decided to hang out at each wall.  Passing is definitely a good thing to learn how to do...it makes racing a lot more fun!  Enjoy the rest of your season!
