Total Time = 1h 02m 28s
Overall Rank = 160/484
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 7/22
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4am. Had toast with peanut butter and honey, peppermint tea. Left at 5am for the race.
Event warmup:

Lots and lots and lots of waiting. My heat didn't start till 9:30am so I just watched everyone else race for a majority of the time. Most people had finished the race before I had started. Didn't really stretch either.
Swim
  • 10m 25s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 36s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim went really, really well. I surprised myself! All that training really helped. I did freestyle the entire way and did not have to take break at all. A total 180 from my first swim experience although that was an open water swim.
What would you do differently?:

Practice on navigation. I tended to not pay attention to when I was approaching the wall and I hit the lane lines trying to duck under into the next lane quit bit.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Forgot my race belt and had to turn around. That was pretty sucky and stupid.
What would you do differently?:

See above.
Bike
  • 32m 47s
  • 8 miles
  • 14.64 mile/hr
Comments:

So I'm almost positive that my bike time was not 32.47 it was more around 28 or 29 minutes because that's what I have on my computer. Tri for the cure does not put in transition times so I'm assuming they added it into the bike time. Very frustrating because I felt like my bike was the best event. I was absolutely flying and must have passed about twenty + people. Only got passed once but the lady had aerobars which obviously give her more power. Planning on getting those on this weekend.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't get out of my shoes fast enough cause I wasn't sure where the dismount was...little clumsy.
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Allow more time to get out of shoes.
Run
  • 19m 16s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

So I thought this would be my best event since it was in my first try...not even close...by far the worst in this race. It surprised me also because I've been training with running distances of 5 + miles and this 2.2 miles was torture. Part of the reason is this was one of hottest days in AZ so far and I haven't got a chance to train and get adapted to the weather yet. I got a horrible side stitch/cramp which I NEVER get when i'm training...its one of the worst side stitch's I've ever had...it took everything I had to not walk it was that bad...frustrating because my lungs and legs were awesome...just that stupid stitch! Breathing techniques didn't really work. Also should have brought my own hydrating hand bottle with me to have a constant flow of water.

Post race
Warm down:

Sat down in the shade. Ate lots of oranges.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The hot weather and that stupid side cramp.

Event comments:

Overall it was a great race and a great experience supporting a great cause. I can't wait to do it again next and I'm hoping to place top 3 in my age group next time with a better run!
