Overall Rank = 91/468
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 10/47
Pre-race routine:

Got my gear packed Friday and loaded so that I could get up at 4:30 and head to the race (90min drive)
Event warmup:

Did a 200m swim warm up
Swim
  • 10m 45s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a pretty good swim given I haven't been in the pool much this spring. Gave me some motivation to get in the pool more between now and PTC International. Also, my first race in a full wetsuit. The first portion of the race with it on went fine, but as I got on the back half of the swim course the suit got a bit confining. If PTC is wetsuit legal, it will be a tough decision as to wearing it or not.
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Transition 1
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

The wetsuit got hung up on one of my heels. I forgot my body glide so just had to pull hard.
What would you do differently?:

I suppose I need to work on my transition times as I would have had a higher place if I had similar transition times to others above in my age group.
Bike
  • 32m 11s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 20.88 mile/hr
Comments:

Same comment as swim, I haven't biked much this season. I also hadn't been on the tri bike since August. To get better, need more saddle time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Had a pretty good T2 for me. Again, more practice.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 22m 49s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

I had a pretty good run for me. It's been an area I have been able to work on and it seems to be paying off.
What would you do differently?:

Keep after my running.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water. Cooled down. Ate 1/2 a bagel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Limited training for bike and swim.

Event comments:

I liked the race and location was good. I would definitely do it again.

I think we must have been pretty close together based on your time. See you at PTC.

Thanks! I had a good friend in college help me with my swim stroke and his advice has stuck with me all these years.

My running is something that I have had to work at for sure. I signed up for my first marathon last year. The additional mileage during the marathon training helped me drop 10lbs or so. Less weight and more mileage has equated into more speed for the run leg for me.

I'll say though that biking and swimming are still my favorite legs of the races though.

Cheers,

Megawatt
