Sunny
Total Time = 2h 24m 34s
Overall Rank = 2480/4000
Age Group = F45-49
Age Group Rank = 79/148
Pre-race routine:

slept ok, woke up a lot. Got up at 5, gathered gear, met Michele (drcherrybomb) in the lobby and we drove to site, parked and walked over. As we walked over we found out the swim was canceled due to rough water....Now it did not look any worse than the day before, when we all swam. but apparently the buoys blew off and the kayaks could not get in the water. Not sure why they did not just shorten the swim, bringing it closer to shore...
Event warmup:

well this was tough, because we lined up in numeric order and q 2 sec were sent into transition as though we had just exited swim. It was windy out therefore tough to GET warm.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 1640 yards
  • / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

SWIM!
Transition 1
  • 01m 49s
Comments:

long run for my AG. we were not allowed to mount until well onto pavement.
What would you do differently?:

need to learn to do flying starts
Bike
  • 1h 14m 27s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.03 mile/hr
Comments:

I was off from not swimming, not warmed up, and probably could have pushed harder earlier. overall ok
What would you do differently?:

push harder
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
What would you do differently?:

learn to get out of shoes on bike
Run
  • 1h 05m 50s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

I am pleased that I kept running though the heat REALLY got me. I know I did not hammer the bike so I need to figure out this psoas thing - I think I have some scar tissue from surgery in lower abdomen that triggers this.
What would you do differently?:

run faster
Post race
Warm down:

at the end I hurt. I almost started crying when they put the wet towel on me. withing 5 minutes I was ok. went and got a beer, stood on line for food....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat, lack of swim...

Event comments:

There was NO hint that they might cancel the swim - and again, the day before was just as rough so that was incredibly disappointing. Since they let the pros swim I wish we had been given an 'at your own risk' option, or a shorter swim or something. It really threw me and the long brick was fine but of course I would have done a longer bike.

Just looked at my chicago data and my bike was better here even with all the turns, run was better (same issue as chicago) and I KNOW my swim has improved so for sure I would have beat that time

Kick bike ride there!!!

Unfortunately since the swim is point to point it's almost impossible to shorten it.  It would be difficult to cut down the distance that you swim out because of the way the harbor is configured.  The transition area used to be in Shaub Park (expo/packet pick up place).  We used to swim out and then have to do this weird maneuver to get around the point that sticks out in the middle of that harbor.

I don't know if you were in the food tent when they did the pro awards, but the guy who won the race said it was a very difficult swim, and that he considered turning around early on.

I feel bad for the swimmers on relay teams.  That had to really suck to come do the race, and not have an event to do.

I struggled swimming yesterday, so I was rather relieved not to have to swim.  Usually I'd be totally bummed out since when I'm trained I'm a decent swimmer and gives me an edge on the 10% body fat runnner chicks.

Nice job.  Stinks about the swim, but it looks like you kicked butt on the bike.  Very nice for the first race of the year.

It was fun race..nice job on the bike..passing all those folks rocks!

I was okay with canceling the swim as we do this for fun and it isn't worth someone possibly dying like '06.

Nice ride. I got passed by a paceline too.

In regards to the swim, I was very disappointed. After swimming the previous afternoon I was looking forward to using my new wetsuit in a race for the first time. But if I were in the race director's shoes, I would have cancelled it too. Just not worth the risk.

I hate when the swim is canceled.  The Treasure Island TRI had the swim canceled two years ago due to the oil spill in the bay!  The good news is that you tied with the pros for first place on the swim.  Congrads.

That is one smoking pace on the bike. Well done.
