Swim
  • 15m 54s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

Time includes running 100 yards or so to t-1. Goggles fogged up right on the start and I couldn't see much but blurred splashing, arms, legs, torsos and heads all around I got a good kick in the stomach that knocked the wind out of me at 100 meter mark -- Just couldn't get my act together from that point on - I broke down and did side-stroke until the final 100 meters -- Just messed me up physically and mentally I guess -- I'll get the swim before seasons-end - I work too hard on everything else to let the swim start me off in the back very time...
Transition 1
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

I'm surprised the time was not longer - I got stuck in my wet suit, staggered around on one foot trying not to fall all over the bike rack with one leg hung in the wet suit... pulled my chip off, and had to put it back on, and to add insult to injury my wife was standing there with the video camera giving me the old, "Lookin' good honey" :) )
Bike

  • 18.50 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

One of the fastest t-2s in my AG -- Felt like I ran by, threw my bike on the rack and was out the other side...
Run
  • 24m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Post race
Event comments:

My overall time was about 4 minutes faster than this same race last year, but I was about 4 minutes slower than I wanted to be -- Improvement, just not as much as I'd hoped for -- But, for the first race of the season, I'll give it a B overal...

Garmin had the bike @ 11.33, but, either way, it was a slow bike - Even though I passed a ton of people (That happens when you're in the 5th of 6 waves on the swim start and come out of the water in the back half of that wave). I still need to pick up about 1.5 mph average in this distance to feel good about the bike --

The run was the only discipline I felt really good about -- I came out of t-2 with a guy who usually finishes right about the same time overall as I do -- I knew he was a faster runner (He's passed me in a couple of past vents right at the finish). I didn't think I could keep up with him for the whole distance, but I knew if I ran with him the first mile I'd be fine at the finish -- We did the first mile at about 7:20 something, so I knew my run was going to be within my predicted time -- I was determined to make the run a good one for me, and that meant keeping the feet turning over up those hills, and not giving in to the temptation to just cost to the finish -- I passed another ton of people on the run.

Great run time! And good swim for that matter after getting kicked in the gut. I'd rather take a kick to the head. You kept it together well.

Pops!  Great race.  There are many stories about the washing machine start (including mine).  Too fuuny on the video...you have to post it.   Your run shows you are ready to build even more speed overall as the season moves forward.  Excellent start to the season.  Also, I enjoyed meeting you.

Definitely a good race, pops!

It was hard not to get kicked, clawed, or poked on the swim! My goggles got knocked off and I got kicked a few times. Fun times.

Sorry we did not get to meet up. I stopped by the BT tent and met ALLTOM and TriAgain (not sure on that second name).

See you at the next race!

Thats a great all around race for the beginning of the year.  Solid base to build on, keep working on the swimming, the real secret to enduring open water swims is experience.  If you work too hard on everything else, start working too hard on the swim too!

Great race!  I would had side-stroked after a kick to the gut too.  Way to come back on the bike and have an awesome run.
