Swim
  • 12m 17s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

I guess my swim was ok. I got winded coming up on the last turn marker and had some trouble breathing so I turned over on my back and rested a bit before continuing. I do not know if it was because my breathing just got out of rythmn or I was going too fast, but the speed was not overly fast for me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

I thought I did ok. This seems like a descent t1 for me, but I seem to be way slower than everyone else.
What would you do differently?:

One of these days, I may work on transitions. They are not really that important to me though. They have nothing to do with exercise.
Bike
  • 34m 31s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

My Garmin had my bike at 20.47 mph and a distance of 11.33. It had my run slower than the official results. It all comes out in the wash. The total time was right.
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Again, I thought it was ok, but slower than everyone else.
Run
  • 27m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

My Garmin had my run slower by about a minute and the bike faster by about a minute.
My calves got to cramping right off the back. I suppose this is why people do bricks. I thought I could run through them and they would quit, but they kept getting worse so I had to stop and stretch out my calves. I wish I had done that right off the bat because my calves are still sore two days later. They get really tight anytime I sit for 30 minutes or so. They are fine once I move around. I rode 63 miles on the bike the next morning and they were good while riding but they hurt so bad I could hardly walk when I got out of bed.
What would you do differently?:

Do some bricks and stop and stretch sooner if they start cramping this badly again.

Event comments:

It was a good race. Well organized. I had lots of friends there which makes it a good time. Rode down there with Brian (trailrunner)which was a good time. Met Tommy's wife, Dee and Karen's husband, Tom, Nora's boyfriend, and Sarah's sister and boyfriend. It was a good day... Life is good...

Great start to season.  Hope to see you at the next race.

I feel your pain on the calves...I have a constant battle with mine.  I got a good laugh on turning over and resting on the swim.  It put the amount of time I lost due to my "issues" on the swim in context.  You beat me hands down.   Very nice.

"I suppose this is why people do bricks" - you crack me up! Nice race - your running pace is getting faster and faster, that is not a flat course! I hope to see more races on your schedule this year, you're off to a great start!

Nice job you old sandbagger!

I like how he got the race director to make it look like he was slower on the bike.
