Age Group Rank = 4/13
Pre-race routine:

Plain Bagel w/ Peanut Nutter and Honey, Sugar-Free Redbull, 20oz bottle of water from 5:30 - 6:30. Light upper body stretching (shoulders, lats, tri's)
Event warmup:

200m (approximate) swim...swam out for about 100 meters and back, to get a feel for the waves and sighting.
Swim
  • 20m 52s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

Sighting was very difficult and so was the breathing. Several mouthfuls of water with the waves!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really... the conditions really dictated what I could do. I swam strong and never stopped, just tried to stay consistent.
Transition 1
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Once again, given the winds ~ I felt like the bike went well. I pushed very hard the entire time. Probably harder than I really could/should have.

Wet suit strippers really made the transition from suit to bike very easy!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really!
Bike
  • 53m 46s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 20.80 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Train more in windy conditions, don't wuss out and opt for the indoor trainer.
Transition 2
  • 00m 36s
Comments:

Great transition... I was very pleased, and headed out very strong!
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 19m 37s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 19s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Push harder... got beat by 1 second at the finish. Should have dropped the hammer for the last mile!
Post race
Warm down:

Light stretching... nothing really. Out of town, tough weekend, very distracted, and was just needing to get this race in the books and get back to Houston. Didn't stay for the post race festivities.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

WIND!!!

Event comments:

The conditions were tough, the course itself was good. Given the conditions, I am pleased with the results ~ as this was just a first of the season race ("B" Race) and not an "A" race for me. I pushed plenty hard enough.
