St. Anthony's Triathlon
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 55m 19s
Overall Rank = 481/
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 72/388
Pre-race routine:

I started out my normal routine. I got up and ate my usual PB on wheat. I drank coffee, water and gatorade. I was relaxed....until I got to the event and heard all of the scuttle butt about the swim being cancelled. That demotivated me a bit - I was thinking negative thoughts, etc. I eventually sucked it up and got into race mode, but not until about mile 3 on the bike. I had a scare when I realized that I left my timing chip back at the hotel. Luckily, a very good friend retrieved it for me in time, but I could have done without that stress.
Event warmup:

None really. It was organized chaos plus I was a bit demotivated.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 1640 yards
  • / 100 yards
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Ummm.. I was still pouting about the swim so I just trotted through the process.
What would you do differently?:

Get some motivation, damnit. Quit being a baby - it was the same for everybody so suck it up.
Bike
  • 1h 03m 35s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 23.45 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't really sink my teeth into the race until a few miles into it. However, I am pleased with the results and the effort in the end. I knew that there were a lot of turns so my strategy was to crank the straight aways and recover a bit in the turns - like doing intervals. Wind was a factor.
What would you do differently?:

Kick self in ass a little sooner.
Transition 2
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

Whatever. I was trying to catch my breath a bit and calm my heart rate down.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 47m 48s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

I am happy with it. The first mile SUCKED!!! I caught my groove between miles 2 and 3. Who moved the mile 5 marker? I have no idea why that mile split was 45 seconds longer. Did I miss a hill or something? Anyway, I kept my HR below 160 because horrible things happen otherwise - it's not pretty and it involves PUKE.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - did what I could do considering the hard bike leg.
Post race
Warm down:

Just wandering and drinking fluids and shining my medal.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of warmup.

Event comments:

Love this race. The organizers did an awesome job adjusting to a difficult situation.

Great bike and run splits!

It was windy out there on the bike course and even felt it on the run.
