5k Victory over Violence - for Lisa, Jayden, M - Run

Pre-race routine:

Ate a piece of toast and some oatmeal, drank some water.
Event warmup:

Bit of stretching.

Comments:

Ran hard out of the blocks and finished mile 1 in 6:45, which is very quick for me. Slowed down the next mile as I turned into the wind (40 gusting to 60kmh today) and clocked in mile 2 at 14:40. The last mile (and an eighth) was a struggle to get the pace back up and keep it up. Still into the wind, but I just kept in mind what I was running for with every step. Came out with a new PB for 5k.
What would you do differently?:

Better warm-up. I couldn't breathe very well for the first 1/2 mile and my legs felt heavy and sounded sloppy.

Warm down:

Grabbed my hound dog and walked him around the block a couple of times.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The wind, a poor warm-up, and my 3 days of laziness coming into the day.
