Flying out tomorrow, have a longer than anticipated layover and a shortage of reading material. Looking for something light but captivating, bonus points if it's current and accessible. Going to the library at lunch...

A classic (fails your current criteria) if you haven't read it.

Catch-22.

Well written and you'll appreciate the cliche much more after the read.

I'm about half-way through the Patrick O'Brian Aubrey-Maturin ("Master & Commander") series.  Good adventure stuff, historically accurate for the period.

X50!!

I've read the series of twenty books about five time through. If you can get through the first 50 pages of the first book, and can forget about the movie, you'll never stop...Favorite series of books ever.

BTW, it's important to do them in order.

What do you like to read?  I'm a librarian and I'm sure I could come up with a long long list.

Twilight I'm sure is not available as there are long reserve lists on it here (I personally don't think the book was well written and it is geared towards teens).  The Shack is okay, also has reserves on it.  So both of those might not be good choices.

Mark Levin's Liberty and Tyranny. It is an easy read but extremely interesting. It is NYT's current number 1 on the best sellers list and half the fun of reading the book is the look of despise you get from the liberal sitting next to you.

c_cic - 2009-04-30 8:08 AM Twilight - find out what all the teens are talking about.

After seeing the movie, I have zero interest in reading the book. Had to be the worst movie in recent memory. Maybe if they had spent a couple million dollars on special effects, and $1.98 on pancake makeup, instead of the other way around...

Already read The Road, Confederacy of Dunces, Stagger Lee.  Making a list of the more interesting other recommendations.

Here are the three best books that I have read this past year.

Cormac McCarthy - No Country for Old Men

Jonathan Safron Foer - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Ken Grimwood - Replay

Get some Robert Ludlum.  Awesome spy/assasin stuff.  The Bourne series is great.  The movies fall about 140.6 miles short of being as cool as the book.

In Harry Dolan's Bad Things Happen, a murderer's row of writers, editors, and interns would kill for good editing—or maybe because of it. It's a twisty, thrilling whodunit that lends new meaning to the term ghostwriters. >>read more

One of two books by Orson Scott Card:

Enders Game (if you haven't read it)

Empire

First one is a classic Sci Fi novel that attracts a lot of non sci fi people (wife loved it, she hates sci fi). Second is about an imminent civil war in our near future. Good times.

Nelson Demille is great airplane reading. He's very entertaining, and his main character is a real wise-azz. I'd recommend Wild Fire. It's probably under the mystery/fiction section.

Ask the Librarian when you get there.  Unless you have a huge regional library at your disposal, this conversation is useless if it's not available.   Or, let us know which library you're using and I'll look at the catalog (I'm a Librarian...)

If the library doesn't pan out, I often buy books at the airport.  Best deal available since they charge the cover price and not a huge mark-up.  They always carry easy to like bestsellers.
