This was my first first 10K, and actually my first race with more than about 30 people. There were 16000 people, a ton of bands playing along the run, lot's of people cheering, even some little league cheerleaders. It was a blast. My goal was to run 8 minute miles and I did that (almost exactly). My wife ran the whole thing, which was great. She was planning on walking it, but then she started running 6 weeks ago. She ran 12 minute miles the whole way! It was great. All in all it was a great race.
