I'm racing this weekend. The temperature at race start is supposed to be 46 and maybe low 50s by the end. It is also going to be overcast and misty as well. My original plan was just to where my normal tri shorts and tri top. I'm thinking of adding a long sleeve dry-fit shirt. Obviously, I don't want to freeze or get to hot.

At those temps I'd consider a light jacket for the bike. Definitely something with sleeves that I could remove in T2 if I felt like it.

Whatever you do, remember: NOTHING NEW ON RACE DAY.

In other words, you change race day attire at the temperature that you change it in training.

46 to low 50s sounds like either long sleeve shirt or light jacket over the tri shorts. The nice thing about about the jacket is that you can layer, and choose whether or not to wear it in transition.

My personal preference is to follow what elite runners do in cooler temps: wearing shorts, and perhaps a long-sleeved shirt, but add light GLOVES rather than a jacket. The jacket is fabric that gets in the way of swinging arms; but gloves don't get in the way, they keep your hands warm while your running keeps the rest of you warm, and push comes to shove you can take off the gloves and run with them in one hand, which is difficult to do with a jacket. This is what I do in training, so it's what I do on race day.

I have raced 3-4 times in weather like that often we have rain too. I wear a tight fitting bike jacket on bike but take it off before run.

When I did a Oly with rain and about 45, I put my toe warmers on my tri shoes so I could still slip on my shoes and just velcro them like normal and I added socks and a jacket in T1. My feet were frozen and took until mile 4 until I could feel them. That was a race about 30-40% of the folks didn't show.

Toe warmers (the chemical heat pack things often used for skiing) are great!  I've used them on slightly chilly bike rides and they'd be great in your cycling shoes.  If you're still chilly you can take them with you on the run.

Toe covers on the bike shoes and a thin long sleeved bike shirt that zips all the way down the front. Slide your arms into the bike shirt and worry about zipping it after you're going.

Cut the end out of pair tube socks for a quick pair of arm or leg warmers

I have only raced short course DU's and HIM's in those temps/conditions.
I did a long sleeve champion C9 (2 sizes small) over the top of the tri-suit and full gloves.  It worked for me,
