Pre-race routine:

Got up about 4:50, got dressed, ate breakfast. Had an english muffin and a hammer bar, o.j. and sipped on some gatorade on the way to the race site.
Event warmup:

Walked over to the Collesium and met up with Jeff and Justin. Went inside and stretched for a few minutes, went to the bathroom. Got my number pinned on and headed out to the start line. Lost Justin when he went to the porta-pot.

Comments:

Started out good, running about 7:40s. Might have been a bit to fast. Felt good headed down toward Sheridan Blvd. Took water and gatorade at every aid station. About 4 miles in I caught up to Justin and said hi to him. Saw Mom and Dad at 33rd and Sheridan. Took some Hammer Gel about mile 5. Saw Kim and the rest of our cheering section while I was on 48th st. On the downhill on 48th I opened my stride up a little bit. Hit the 10k mark at 48:54. Felt like I was starting to fade a bit, took some more Hammer Gel and Gatorade. Kept truckin along through the miles, the hills were a little rough. Going up the long hill on 20th my hamstrings and quads were burning a little. The last 4 miles were pretty uneventful. Had a side stitch or two on the way back to the stadium. Hit the home stretch and glanced at my watch, 1:44:28, put the hammer down and sprinted to the line, made my goal with 2 seconds to spare!
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. My training wasn't the best leading up to this, missed a few long runs. The trip to K.C. and getting back late the night before probably didn't help. But I can't complain, I PR'd and hit my goal. Also had a good gauge at where I am 6 weeks out from IMKS.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked and stretched a little. Found the girls and my folks. Watched Jeff, Justin, Andy, and few others I know finish up.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The big-a$$ blister that formed on my right little two, that thing still hurts.

Event comments:

Good race, had fun.
