Member 44 Central California | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower I'll be at Wildflower for the 4th time this year. It's the first time I'll be doing the full OLY course, though. I've done the mountain bike sprint event 3 times and in addition did the bike leg of the OLY relay last year. |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower Sonoma County in the houuzzz! We were just there on Saturday, and the weather was beautiful, if a bit windy/chilly. This will be my first oly and, to be honest, I'm a bit nervous. Lynch hill is H-A-R-D, but do-able. And I hear that there's usually more than one person walking their bike up it (my bail-out plan). I also hear that last year's weather was hotter than normal, and that it probably won't be that hot this year. The year before last (2003), it rained, so... who knows what will happen. Have you seen the wildflower video? |

Extreme Veteran 445 pinoy city | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower okay just did the bike course on widflower, just a several pointers for those fellas who havent biked the course yet. 1. there is a hill at the start of the bike course-lynch hill-very steep 2. strong winds at miles 15-20 before turning to interlake road. 3. miles 25 -32 are the areas to go aero, this will be of benefit to you 4. very steep hill again at mile 42 5.be careful at the mile- before where the bridge is (actually i crashed there-there were som sand and debris i didnt pay attention to. I, m not much of a biker , my strategy will be to conserve energy for the run hopefully to finish the course the bike portion in 3:30 |

Veteran 200 san francisco, ca | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower I'm doing the Oly course. My first I was out there last Saturday (4/9) too. V v windy. Did the bike course (had the same problems listed above), then tried out my wetsuit (swallowed half the lake...), didn't get to run. Planning to go back tomorrow to do another swim, part of the bike and then the run course. Was it really windy last year? I like in South Bay -> Sunnyvale. Edited by kirby 2005-04-15 7:10 PM |

It was icky windy cold on Sat morning, but by the afternoon it was nice and I even got a sun burn on the run. I'm hoping that it means it won't be like the surface of the sun there in three weeks (hope hope hope). |

Veteran 200 san francisco, ca | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower Went back again on 4/16. MUCH WARMER. 80s F. Don't know what this means for the event w-e. Swam again. Not as windy = fewer waves = good. Biked part of the Oly course. Not as windy = good. Did the full run. Am an idiot. Did not bring hydration. Hopefully this was my major pbm and it will all be much better during the event. More or less incline for the first 8k (at one point my BF said "well, at least we can't get any higher) and then down Lynch Hill. It was tough - and I generally like running hills. I might be revising my original goal time of 4hrs. I have a smallish Camelbak (1.5 L) that I use on the bike (in addition to a water bottle). Should I bring this with me on the run? Any thoughts on the aid station placement? Danke. Kirby |

Champion 6285 Beautiful Sonoma County | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower As for aid stations, I don't know for sure but here's what I've been told: There is one aid station on the bike where you can do a bottle transfer (they give you a new water bottle). There are several aid stations on the run. And, according to Eric, the nice lady at the TNT aid station at the back side of the run (when you get on the black top, at the top of that little hill) will give you ice chips to put in your hat. I didn't take any fluids with me on my last run of that course either and was sorry that I didn't. I too am considering taking my CamelBack on the bike. Just for ease of use and to be sure that I get PLENTY of fluids on the bike so I don't bonk on the run. |

Veteran 200 san francisco, ca | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower Can you explain the "bottle transfer" to me? I'm having a tough time picturing this one. I think Camelbak's are awesome. I started wearing one a few years ago for "longer" trail runs (in quotes b/c I'm no ultra-marathoner or anything) and then mtn biking. I don't understand why more roadies don't use them! Thanks!!! Extreme Veteran 326 Paso Robles, California | Subject: RE: Who doing Wildflower Kirby, Bottle transfers got something like this . . . As you race through an aid station, people are out there handing out gatorade bottles (green ones you see on NFL sidelines). You should pull the one that you have in your cage out and replace it with the new one. Just throw the other one's on to the ground, the volunteers are there to clean all that up. Why we never use camelbaks at races . . . As you can see above in the bottle transfer you don't want a lot of weight on you and 80 oz. of water is more weight that you have to pull up the hills. Plus, you would need to put it on in Transition 1. Here is where is comes down to you, you can do whatever you are trying to do at the race. If you are looking for PR or to place then use the transfer and don't use a camelbak, but if you are just out there to have a little fun, do what you are comfortable with. Jason |

I think the only reason I forgot it was that I had nooo salt in me and I kept thinking I was somewhere else.haha I guess it because of that part of the run when the temp. shot up to 115. soo hot |
