Run
Comments: Ran up a mountain. Up, up, up! WTF???? The shins lit up a bit but I think it was because Dave was forcing me to slow down for him. Probably for the best as I would have stormed up the hill and had nothing left in the tank. After the first stage of biking, we dropped the bikes at the second running stage and began our trekking throughout Buntzen. I think we knocked this one out of the park. Couldn't have been too much fast or done it much better. Using the techniques we picked up from MOMAR last year came in handy. We finished ahead of a few people that passed us on the 1st run and bike stages. What would you do differently?: More training. For both team mates. Dave suffered but so did I....just not as badly. Transition 1
Comments: So many people riding inside of the transition area. I complained when some jackasz rode past me at break neck speed. Other than that, transition went well, just not as fast as I wanted. Dave wanted to hang out and rest a minute I think. Bike
Comments: 48:30 - Stage one was leaving the bike drop then up Eagle Ridge Mountain. THis kind of killed us. I've been dong a lot of hill training and Dave sort of had this race dropped into his lap so he was suffering from a lack of training. He was a trooper and managed to keep hammering. We lost a few places (4-5 in the men's standings) but got to the top feeling a bit wobbly but ready to make up some time. My training / riding with Leah had totally improved my down hilling abilities. Cruised down this year with no problems, actually enjoying the ride this year! Rode to the Orienteering section where the fun continued! 54:27 - Finished the Orienteering and began the last stretch to the finish. The wheels sort of fell off here for Dave. His legs seized a lot and he was hurting. It was funny to watch his get angry and got ballistic down a few of the runs. We finished the ride and crossed the finish line at 2:24:41 according to my watch but we'll see what the official numbers are when they are posted. What would you do differently?: Not sure. Next year I'm either going to race Solo or let my partner know he's racing with me more than 2 weeks in advance. Post race
Warm down: Got a massage, chilled out on the grass watching people finish and grabbed some of the free stuff they were passing out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Ummmm....having to stay close to my race partner. Last updated: 2009-02-22 12:00 AM

Woke up, had waffles (mmmmmmm!) then drove out to the bike drop for the race. Met Leah and Dan at the drop then we drove back down the mountain to meet at Starbucks. It was a bit chilly out before the race start but we only had an hour to the start of the race. Milled around, chatted with a few people I knew in the crowds, Dave and I talked about the maps and got into the mind set to charge.
Little, tiny bit of stretching, some running in place till I was told I looked like an idiot by my team mate.
