Subject: Open water swim practice?
I'm getting ready for my first open water triathlon later this summer. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a good place to practice that is safe and disease free in the Oxford/Cinci/Dayton area? Thanks

Hueston Woods is not too bad if you are in Oxford. Brookville lake is another option.

You could come to one of the Cincy tri club's training sessions every Saturday morning at Caesar's Creek.  That may be a little further east than what you'd prefer, but I thought I'd extend the offer.  Of course, if you're planning on doing the Caesar's Creek tri, there'd be no better place to train than on the course itself.  We swim, bike and run or you can pick and choose.  You don't have to be a member to join us on a training day, though, of course, we hope that you'd like to join at some point.   Let me know if you have any questions.

You betcha.  Here's the club's Web site:  http://www.cincyexpress.org/

All the communication and planning takes place on the forums.  You have to register on the forums to view them, though.  You don't actually have to be a member of the club to be on the forums.  They do make it open that way.  Here's a link to the forums:  http://triexpress.proboards.com/index.cgi?

Let me know if you have any further questions.  Be glad to help!

Lora,

Have you guys been swimming in the lake already? I am guessing it is still a little cold. I will come down this summer to do some training with you guys. I am really needing to get in some open water swimming. How far do you guys go on your rides and runs?

Believe it or not, they've been in the water the past 2-3 weeks.  Some guy's just offered-up a 7 AM start for the swim this Saturday.  I just come for the bike and run at this point.  I doubt I'll be in the water before mid-June.  Brrrrr.  We go different distances on the bike and run.  It just depends on who shows up and at what time.  You should check out our boards, too, and you'll find these discussions under Organized Training.  Let me know if you have any other questions!
