I went for a nice run this afternoon - the snow was still here and there but it was sunny and fairly warm..and nobody on the bike path..did a nice out and back..got to my car and the passenger window was busted out.  They stole my credit card and telephone.  They left two gym bags filled with volleyball and tri gear and my briefcase with my palm pilot.  Not too bright..luckily I figured out who did it..3 15-17 year olds riding on the trail on a motorcycle and one of those pocket cycles.  The cops had one arrested by this evening and my stuff was returned.  I just thought it was funny that all of my gear was left and they took my cell phone...I was actually glad the darn phone was taken..Now why would anyone take a cell phone and leave a brand new set of swim fins, 4 volleyballs, a heart rate monitor, a timex ironman watch and 3 books on triathlons....must have differnet priorities than me.   One good thing was that the officer said that she has been working the trail for about 5 years and this is only the second break in she has seen.

Glad you got your stuff back.  I hope you make the punk's parents pay for your window.  The stuff people steal sometimes.  Someone broke into my girlfriends Jeep (several times) and took her gym bag with a swim suit, sports bra, running shoes, and some randon clothes, but left the case full of CDs.  Maybe they were just trying to get into exercise but couldn't afford gym clothes

Heck, kids don't steal for profit most of the time.  Usually it's for kicks.  My car was broken into two weeks ago and all that was taken were a few opera CD's!!!!!  I think that it's more funny than sad ... I can just imagine a bunch of juveniles sitting around listening to "The Marriage of Figaro" or "Carmen" ... :-)

Bummer - I'm really glad to hear you got your stuff back!!  I never leave anything valuable in my car at any trailhead in Denver after seeing a number of windows broken out of cars in the parking lot at Waterton Canyon and the one that people park in by Morrison to go ride at Bear Creek.

omg. this is all so foreign to me in little ole' Colorado Springs. To think I leave my car unlock half of the time!  BUT NOT MY FREAKIN' BIKE! No way. Love that thing!

No seriously, glad you got your stuff back. There's nothing worse than a slimy thief!

You were lucky.... My car window was smashed while I was at work... during the day... my car parked in an office parking lot with tons of other cars around. The idiots took a $200.00 after market stereo. Of course I not only had to pay to replace that, but also had to have my window replaced. I HATE people who steal and thinks that's appropriate behavior in society. I personally think they should have their hands cut off.

Kids will break a window for a nickel if they know they can get away with it. I have taken so many police reports of car windows being broken and the small stuff is taken and the offenders leave the good stuff. I can tell when a kid breaks into a house and steals things. The change jar is missing with along with the PS2 but the TV and stereo, jewelry and expensive little knick knacks are always left. Go after these kids full force because it may not be their first time and one of them might crack under pressure and start confessing to other crimes. I am glad your stuff was returned. Usually we keep it for evidence and you wont' get it back for a couple of years.
