Pre-race routine:

Got up had coffee and waffles with PB&J. Grabbed all mys stuff, loaded the family into the Jeep and headed out.
Event warmup:

Not much, jsut got in the water for a few minutes.
Swim
  • 18m 10s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a terrible swim for me.As soon as i got in the water, i lost my breath and could not get it back for the first 200 meters. I finally was able to get a few strokes but could never get a rhythm. I almost quit cuz it was sucking so much. But i told myself to get through the swim and it will be better.
What would you do differently?:

Well i went into this race untrained in the water. I havent swam since my last race last year.So definitley getting in the pool would help.
Transition 1
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

This transistion was sucky too since you had to run up a hill and i thought i would fall any second. Then you have to run down the hill with your bike in your bike shoes, That was not good either. ANyway, i managed without injury but was unable to get any advantage here.
Bike
  • 46m 47s
  • 12.8 miles
  • 16.42 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the better of three events, even though it wasnt stellar either. I felt ok, but just felt like i never could get enough speed and settle into a rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my tri bike. And train more on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

this was fine i guess, but running up the hill in bike shoes was worse than down the hill i think.
What would you do differently?:

take off bike shoes to run up the hill.
Run
  • 33m 30s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

This run is hilly. And this pace is embarrassingly slow for a 5k. However, i have not been doing any brick workouts since coming off marathon training, so that would explain the lack of pop in my legs. But the run wasnt too hot. I kept seeing other Athenas pass me but i just couldnt make myself run faster to catch up.
What would you do differently?:

Train more off the bike and push myself harder
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I came into this race knowing i wasnt trained for tris quite yet since i was so focused on run training with teh marathon. I used this race as a good test of where i am. I know what i need to work on.
I missed third place athena by 30 seconds, so i will definitley push harder in the next race.

Event comments:

This was a well organized race. I was surprised at how few participants there were though. It is fairll close to home and i love the race being on a saturday.

Nice race.  30 seconds?  That's gotta hurt, but you'll get them next time when you are better trained for a tri!

Great job! It was hilly wasn't it! I am not allowed to run yet (injured hip), and I could still feel those hills walking!
