Pre-race routine:

Yogurt and banana, drove over. We parked at the finish and took the shuttle to the start, which was a great idea! I'm super glad that the course didn't involve the hill up Wilson Boulevard - I did the 10k (Battle of the Boulevard) there two years ago, and that final mile uphill was killer. So didn't mind shuttling to avoid that.
Event warmup:

None. Stretched.

Comments:

I was here to pace my BF, Mark, for his first half marathon. Also, I'm doing a HIM in less than a month (eeks!) so I thought it would be good to get a HM in at a 'slower' pace to kind of simulate the HIM. But I'm pretty sure my pace for the HIM run is going to be a lot slower, haha...

Splits: 8:29, 8:26, 8:46, 9:01, 9:12, 9:04, 9:38, 10:29 (long uphill), 10:02, 10:00, 10:04, 10:54, 10:46, and 2:00 for the last part.

I feel bad because I took him out way too fast- I just felt so good and couldn't help myself. If this was my own stand alone race, I definitely would have gone sub-2, though I don't think I would have hit my PR of 1:52 because there were some slight hills and a headwind for the last few miles. Anyway, Mark's longest training run was 10, so he found the last 3 miles challenging. I was the crazy girl running back and forth because I found it really hard to keep myself at his pace - I'd go my pace, stop, drop back, give encouragement, and then pick it up again. People looked at me like I was crazy, but we had fun!
What would you do differently?:

Tried to give him a more steady pace. Turns out, I'm a terrible pacer. I usually pace myself pretty well (negative split at Chicago last year!) but I have a hard time reading other people...
Post race
Warm down:

Apple, water, walked around. Then drove home and walked the dog!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This race was to pace Mark, not for me. But I felt good and I'm super happy with where I'm at on run fitness!

Event comments:

Good! Kind of boring course on a highway all the time, but definitely a good amount of aid stations (I always prefer more!). On and off ramps were kind of annoying.
