Total Time = 1h 18m 56s
Overall Rank = 46/326
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 10/34
Pre-race routine:

Slept like crap, up at 4:30. Coffee, poop, load equipment, poop, banana nut muffin and banana, poop at race site 2x. I like ro race on an empty tank!
Event warmup:

Swam a couple hundred yards in the lake.
Swim
  • 15m 26s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 04s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was good. I didn't push too hard as I was unsure of my overall fitness and wanted to save some for the bike and run.
What would you do differently?:

Kick more. In the pool, my pulling is horrible - all my power comes from my legs. If I start kicking more w/ the wetsuit I can shave a minute or so off my time.
Transition 1
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

I lost a lot of time here. I had my shoes rubber-banded to my bike so that I wouldn't have to mess with them in T1. Although I practiced the night before w/ no problems, I hard a difficult time getting into the shoes in the race. Turns out I neglected to open the straps up.
What would you do differently?:

Open the shoe strsps up.
Bike
  • 36m 34s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.40 mile/hr
Comments:

Bad start to the bike. As mentioned earlier, I couldn't get into my shoes and lost a lot of ground trying. Got passed by a bunch of guys while I was messing around with that. Finally got in and kicked it into gear. I made up a lot of time and thoroughly enjoyed passing everybody back up. The A listers were at White Lake, so I had a better bike than usual. The new bike rocked. Still a bit wobbly on it, but it made a huge difference in my overall time.
What would you do differently?:

Open the straps on the shoes. Nothing else.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Great transition. Need to be able to run with no socks so I can shave that 15 seconds off.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 24m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt like led. I'm really surprised I broke 25mins. I was thinking more like 27mins. After 1st mile I loosened up a bit. I really need to get back to a 21min 5k. More training.
What would you do differently?:

Need to run more and do some speed work.
Post race
Warm down:

Water and Powerade. Walked around a bit and cheered on the other finishers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training.

Event comments:

I'm pleased with my performance given that I've only been back training a few weeks, and sporadically at that. Hopefully the motivation will stick with my for awhile. Love the new bike! I was pretty happy with my bike time, but want to take at least a minute off the swim and 3 minutes of the run.
