Set-Up, Inc
Total Time = 00m
Overall Rank = 41/220
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 9/38
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45, had a pb&j. Loaded up the car. Talked to the newspaper delivery guy. Hit the road around 5:30.
Event warmup:

Ran 1 mile. Jumped in the water to get use to it.
Swim
  • 12m 50s
  • 750 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was a running start from the beach. I don't think i'd ever done a swim start like this. I am a pretty calm person in the water, but i was not a fan of the running into the water. I got kicked and swum over more than usual. Took me a little while to get my breathing in control. Once i got around the first buoy i was fine. Felt pretty good out there.

Wore my wetsuit for the first time in about 2 years. It still fit, which was nice. It wasn't as big of pain in the ass as i remembered it being, either.
What would you do differently?:

Be a faster swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 02m 10s
Comments:

not bad at all
What would you do differently?:

Figure out how not to wobbly after a swim so i don't have to sit on the ground to put on my socks.
Bike
  • 56m 27s
  • 18 miles
  • 19.13 mile/hr
Comments:

I really liked this course - it was fun. I didn't like how freakin' crowded it was. People were allll over the place. And they were all riding like Virginia drivers - on the left. C'mon people, get over!

Lost my water bottle at mile 7. I don't think it really mattered. I felt super strong on the ride..it was a confidence booster, especially since I don't have the same bike base as I normally do at this time of the year.
What would you do differently?:

Not lose my water bottle. Be a faster swimmer so I can avoid the crowd.
Transition 2
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

In and out fairly quick. There was some 10 or 12 year old kid at the dismount line taking his job very seriously, "Dismount here, or you WILL be disqualified!!". Good for him, but at the time I thought it was funny.

Running from dismount to my transition area, my ankles were a little wobbly. Not sure if it was because of the grass i was running on, or what. It was just weird.
Run
  • 25m 3s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

Meh. I felt fine the whole run. Looking back, I should've pushed it more...not sure what my issue was. Maybe i was just enjoying the nice weather.
What would you do differently?:

Not go out for a nice little jog during the race..actually work a little harder at the run.
Post race
Warm down:

talked to a girl who was wearing the same shirt as me, and finished right in front of me. had a slice of pizza. packed up the car and drove home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm pleased with my performance. My running's been off lately, maybe focus on some speed work.

Event comments:

This race was a lot of fun. It was very well organized, with some nice scenery. I'll come back next year.

Great job, so is that a normal warmup strategy to talk to the paper guy?

Those aren't VA drivers; those are drivers from up North that relocated to VA!

Good job!
