Good luck to all you folks tomorrow, light it up!  Make BT proud, take lots of pics and make lots of mental notes for your race reports.

There is a gas station about halfway through the bike portion.  I bet they would have some nice uns' for you.  Just pop in real quick while you are making the turn.  Big mirrored lenses, oh yeah, STYLIN'.

I thought about going the novice route but decided I would just take my lumps and stay out of the way (on the swim).  You did good at Lake Lanier.  You will be fine here to.  I am just going to try and not go too fast in the swim (read don't drowned).

So a 600 meter race that starts and ends on the beach is really a bit less distance swimming since you run in and out, correct?

Things are looking up!

Actually, I had that same question. Do we start the swim on the beach here or do we start in the water?

Typically waters edge. The timing equipment can't be in the water. But you are only shaving off a yard or two.

TriathMike7 - 2005-04-29 9:58 AM Most of you first timers will probably pass me at some point since you are younger and slimmer... so make sure you say "Hey Mike" as you pass #128.

Ha!  We've obviously never met.  You may think twice about the above statement tomorrow at 7:30am...

Lookin' forward to it-

Bters...

The dark clouds are looking nasty over Carrollton. Just came back fro the park to pick up my package. i saw the Finish/Start line and it gave me goosebumps. The swim course has not been roped off yet but the transition area is almost done. Course markings are up. I suggest you guys drive along the course. Ok, 7:30am all3sports tent -- I am easy to spot -- skinny shaved asian dude with a black and white Hind trisuit.

I have decided not to wear a wetsuit -- have not worn it so, why now?... Will go with a trisuit all the way -- just have to deal with my socks and shoes and glasses -- I might be blind without my glasses, so please say hello to me first @ 7:30am. I have to preset my glasses at the transition area.

Ok.. pack up some carbs!! Let's go it!!

I'm in the 5th wave.  I get the feeling it will be me and one or two other folks.

The starter will look at how pathetic I am and say, 'I guess you can go, but I'm not coming in to save your ass'.  D'OH!

Even being a novice, I could have signed up as an age grouper, correct?

Since I'm down here in Columbus/ Ft. Benning, I'm picking up my stuff Sat. morning. I'll be leaving here at 4:00 a.m. to be there around 6:00 a.m. and get set-up, warmed-up, and psyched-up! No idea what my number or my wave is. I registered as a Clyde, so I should be in the second wave.

Rain ain't no thing. We're gonna start out wet, might as well stay wet while we ride, no? Safety is the only issue; comfort is not an option. As we say here in the Army, "If it ain't rainin', we ain't training."

No missing me, I'll be the guy in Black and Gold warm-up with the military haircut.

Hi guys.  See you at 7:30.  I'm the chick with the spikey hair with an irritated, tired husband in tow.  The weather forecast is kinda freaking me out.  Everyone definitely needs to remember to bring dry clothes to change into.  BTW, I'm not wearing a wetsuit and plan on bringing lots of trashbags to cover stuff up, possibly including me.  Also, if you're getting there before 7:30 (I'm shooting for 6:30), think of bringing a flashlight.  It can be irritating setting up your transition are in the dark.

Enjoy your carb loading today!

Its raining here in Alpharetta and probably is where you're racing today, too.  Most of you are probably still out in the course right now.  I hope the race is going well.  I'm sending speed vibes to everyone.

CRAP!  Rained out.

At 6:30am, everything was still dry, but the winds indicated that rain was a-comin'.  It seemed like the minute I got marked with my number, it started to rain.  It came along with thunder, lightning, and wind.  7:15 rolled around and the race director gave us the news that we'll wait until 7:45 or so to make a call.

7:50: Still Raining.  Race director mentions that the front is coming from Alabama.  He gives us .5 hours to kill and says that at 8:20 we'll check again.

8:20: Still Raining.  Race director says that (to paraphrase) if it's still raining in .5 hours, we'll have a Duathlon.  If there haven't been any lightning strikes detected in the 15 or so minutes prior to that time, we'll have the full tri.

8:47 (by my watch): Big ol' lightning strike.  I prep myself for a Du (which would have been 5K run, 11.2 mile bike, 5K run.  The next thing I hear is that the bike has been called off and that the only thing left is to have a 5K run, sans swim and bike.

I make the decision that I can run a rainy 5K any time and pack up my transition area and head home.

I have, however, just signed up for the Macon Triathlon on Monday 30 May (.5 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 5K run).  Dammit, I'm not gonna wait until August to make my first tri.

I was so upset with the weather that I wasn't going to let it stop me from doing a tri today. I, too, packed up my transition area when the announcement was made for the 5K and made the drive back to Atlanta. Upon pulling into town, I headed straight for the gym where I was determined to get a swim/bike/run in.

I felt great during my indoor tri, too, finishing in around 1:05. Now I just need to wait two more weeks to get that first race under my belt...Fort Yargo, here I come.

Indeed, anticlimatic day. But hey, 5k run was fun. My first outdoor run since 14 years ..so I was proud that I finished it. 53rd overall...... good stuff. I think there were about 100 stayed back for the wet run. I now need to find another tri event. I ain't gonna wait till August as well. Any suggestions?

Bad omen of the day when I stopped at the gas station for aqua and 7 freaking bottles hit my toes....*&^&^$^%&*%&$# imediately, I thought, not a good sign. Anyhooo, I managed to have fun today dispite the disappointing weather.

Until then....keep working out...

I, too, called it quits when the race was downgraded into a 5k.  There's no way I was gonna ruin my $90 shoes for a soggy 5k.  And I, too, did my own gym tri.  Please check out my race report that I just put up.

To be honest, I'm really bummed about this.  We're starting a business right now and don't have the extra cash for a lot of races.  I think I may ask for a race entry fee for my anniversary present.  Oh well.  At least I've gotten my workout, gotten a shower and am having a beer.  Oh yeah, hubby had a nap while I was at the gym so his mood should be better as well.

It was great seeing you guys and I am looking forward to seeing you again in more favorable weather situations!

What a nasty, yucky morning. I bailed after they called off the tri race.

So here's my indoor mock tri:

600m swim (11:08)
15 mile Spinning class (55:00. Yes, distance is a guess)
3.3 mile run (24:53)

It was funny because there were a handful of people at my gym who had race numbers and doing their own tri. I saw some in the pool and in the Spin class.

It was like firehose rain.

I got good and wet and cold. Now I'm sneezing and coughing my fool head off. I'll probably sign up for the Indian Springs race, but it's not till the end of June. Maybe Macon.
