Swim
Comments: Swim canceled and we did a time trial start from the swim exit. About the only thing I did differently was to wear my Garmin on my wrist. What would you do differently?: Wear helmet & sunglasses and a running shirt from the start. Transition 1
Comments: Ran FAST! This could have been the fastest t1 of my life!! COULD have been. I guess I had forgotten how to velcro my aerobottle and steps from the transition mat, I lost my bottle (and all but 6 drops of fluid). Spent an entire minute trying to thread it back on. What would you do differently?: Knowing what I know now, (that I'd never see water again anyways), I'd have left the bottle behind and had a GREAT t1. Bike
Comments: A much better bike than I expected. I haven't been a really strong rider this year and with the winds, my expectations were low, but I killed it. Obsessed too much that I have no water. When I got to about mile 17, I picked up a bottle of gatorade and water and filled my aero bottle. YAY! About 2 sips later, I lost the bottle at the U-turn. I was lucky to miss getting a penalty, but now I was in trouble. Saw hubby much earlier than I did last year (he was going fast too!) and tried to hold Sue at bay. She caught up to me very close to the end. Ran into Melissa about mile 23 or so. The great news is that I beat my husband on the bike! This is a HUGE accomplishment as he has been dropping me all winter. What would you do differently?: Not be an idiot. Ease up the last 5 miles...I went too hard. Transition 2
Comments: Looking for water, looking for water. None found. :-( Switched to a running top and wondered why I hadn't done any bricks this year? My legs hurt BAD. What would you do differently?: Should have gone easier on the bike. Run
Comments: Before the race, I had high hopes of sub 1:30 for the run. Considering how I felt off the bike, I'm lucky I was sub 2 for the run. Walked a LOT. Melissa caught up to me in t2 and I forced myself to try and run some. I wanted SO BAD to just walk and hang with her (if I could keep up) but felt like I needed to stay ahead of her and not be a bad example. It was so HOT and the sprayers were a god send. What would you do differently?: Not go so hard on the bike. Post race
Warm down: Ate the crappy pizza and too many muffins. Headed home to the pool. Last updated: 2008-11-28 12:00 AM

Learned that the swim was canceled on the walk to transition. Obsessed that I might have to run twice all through body marking. Was very happy that it became a t1-bike-run instead of a run-bike-run race. Wondered what I'd do differently.
Waited around and waited around and waited around. Saw Jeff & BT crowd. Waited some more. Ran into Sue & Tom! I had been so glum about this race since I knew it wouldn't be the same without Christine. The last 2 years I've run into her at the start and we started in the same waves. Last year, we ran around finding her a new pair of goggles to use and I'm still so sad for her...she had so much life left to live. Seeing Tom was very much a treat and I'm so proud of him for deciding to do this race, and I was so sad for him that the swim was canceled. We were all a little bit moody about that.
Sue pulled a great 'Stacey' and fixed my crappy non-parted-self-braid-in-the-dark look by giving me the best french braids ever!
