Run
Comments: This felt OK. Nice to be caught up in the atmosphere of runners starting together 'cos it's normally more spread out in a tri. Hill at the end was horrid but overall I felt OK. What would you do differently?: La de da, same old story, despite working on speed all winter my run speed always lets me down. I could have worked some more trails but I only recently decided to do this race. Transition 1
Comments: I couldn't buckle my helmet! In the end I had to take it off and look at it and realised I was holding the wrong part of the strap. Duh! Otherwise this felt smooth enough Bike
Comments: I love the bike. I just remember saying to myself on the bike that I was now in my happy zone pedalling away. I passed a few people including a couple of girls and played hop scotch with a lady and man for second half of course What would you do differently?: Nothing - I love the bike Transition 2
Comments: Ok What would you do differently?: get faster! Run
Comments: 1 mile felt like 10! I just remember thinking how I was looking forward to being back on the bike. I walked up the steep hill towards end on purpose just to get my breath back. What would you do differently?: Practice. I usually run faster off bike so am a bit disappointed with this leg Transition 3
Comments: ok Bike
Comments: I was happy to back on the bike. I probably could have pushed it more but after the mile run I was a bit worried about the next 2mile run coming up. Still, I did push it somewhat and was a little surprised to see the time nearly a minute slower than the earlier leg as I didn't feel that tired. Played leap frog with the same girl throughout the ride. I beat her into transition but she got me on the last run Transition 4
Comments: ok Run
Comments: Yuk, what a horrid pace. I could feel my body working hard throughout this despite the ploddy pace. I walked that same hill again on purpose because I wanted to finish strong. I did manage to sprint to the finish line (benefit of having a downhill finish) What would you do differently?: Get faster Post race
Warm down: Drank water and chatted to people What limited your ability to perform faster: Not done a duathlon before. Event comments: Nicely organised Last updated: 2009-04-30 12:00 AM

Up at normal time (though not normal for a Saturday), ate breakfast and packed car. Got to site about 7.20, set up transition and then just chatted with Rob and Ken.
Rob walked over the field with me to show the ending of the course (horrid hill). I jogged for a few minutes before the start but that was about it
