Overall Rank = 256/266

Age Group Rank = 44/45
Pre-race routine:

Woke up a @ 4:10 a little before the alarm. Got dressed and packed up the car with bike and T bag (no jokes please). Had 2 pieces of toast and some PB. Since last night was not a great sleep I had Kristy drive us up.
Event warmup:

Got in the water about 10m before the first wave and did all I needed to to get water down in the wetsuit.
Swim
  • 29m
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 56s / 100 meters
Comments:

Did not get beat around very much when the third wave caught up to me I did some but not too bad. I did keep veering to my left. Which is weird as right is my dominant side.
Sighting was not too bad either.
I loved the astro turf on the beach when coming out of the water. It helped keep most of the sand off the feet.

What would you do differently?:

Practice a little bit in the pool with the wetsuit.
Learn not to fight the wetsuit.
Transition 1
  • 05m 30s
Comments:

By far this is the longest T1 I have ever had. But I feel it was worth it.
There were wetsuit strippers off the beach, but by the time I reached them I had the wetsuit down to my waist and went on to T area.
It is a little bit of a jog to the T area so that is some of the extra time.
What would you do differently?:

Need some T1 practice. It has always been on my training plan...However...
Bike
  • 1h 26m 18s
  • 23 miles
  • 15.99 mile/hr
Comments:

The first 3-5 miles my quads were really stiff(The hills didn't help). About mile 5 they opened up and I was able to open it up some. Alot of good aero time until Hemming Road.
I did part of this course last year at Disco and will do it again some day.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the back side of the course before hand.
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Racked bike quickly, bike shoes off and running shoes and hat on. This one went pretty quickly as all of mine the season have.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing I can think og.
Run
  • 1h 18m 8s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 12m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

The first 1.5mi was rough on the legs. At mile 2 I picked up a very comfortable pace and interval. I did .5mi running then a :45 or 1:00 walk.
Mile 3-4 was sort of boring. Once we got back into the park I was feel VERY good so I increased the pace some. Mile 5-6 was the best of the bunch; My legs felt great and I was the only on the trail at that time. I only slowed down for the last aid station and continued running from 5.5 to 6.2.
What would you do differently?:

Try to get into a comfortable pace sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some pepperoni pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My legs seemed to still be a little sore from the metric century last weekend.

Course: The park road going out was pretty good and the first 3.4 miles of the FM road were good. Then we got into the bad chip seal on the shoulder. There was only 1 to 1.5 feet between the chip seal and the white line. The road after the Oly turn-off had really sucky chip seal. The back road (Hemming) had pot holes galore (some not marked) and bumps everywhere. I was not able to spend much time in aero here as I felt it too uncontrable.
