Pre-race routine:

Grapple with nerves, use the bathroom, set up. It was raining. I chose to just put my stuff out there and assume everything would be soaked. Others chose to elaborately protect their gear with plastic bags, tape etc. I figure I would be wet, and it doesn't bother me to put on wet stuff.

I had to laugh - only in M'head would they warn you to turn diamond rings to the inside of hand so you won't injure others. Only in M'head.

Was wowed by the expensive bikes on the racks. This is where the money is!
Event warmup:

LONG wait for swim. jumping jacks, arm swings.
Swim
  • 06m 26s
  • 250 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

I hate swimming. One woman passed me.

The woman who came in first in our age cat, beat me by 35 seconds here.
What would you do differently?:

where do i start?

Comments:

I loved the ride! It was wet, cold and windy which favors me. Many whiners out there, and I was just picking them off on turns and hills. I did hold back a bit on the tight turn cause I didn't want to wipe out. The plus side of starting at the back is that I get to pass so many people. No women passed me, and 2 or 3 men passed me. My time is about 2 minutes slower than 2-yrs ago, but I attribute that to conditions.

The woman who came in first in our age cat, beat me by 10 seconds here.

They don't give transition times, so I am not sure if T2 counts in run or bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 31m 54s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Nice run. I felt strong. I think the mile markers were a bit off. From mile marker 2 to 3, I had a 8:37 pace, but for last half mile I had 5:16? I don't think I slowed down at all in the last half mile. If you move the marker by about 25 seconds, it makes more sense.

The woman who came in first in our age cat, beat me by 3 minutes here. This is where she won the race. Good for her. I don't think I had that much speed in me today.
Post race
Warm down:

I was comfortable for the race, but got very cold very quickly when I stopped. I wanted to watch a friend come in but I was so shivery, I opted to change out of wet clothes.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

me.

Event comments:

A nice race in a beautiful venue.

Congrats!

Nice race and the weather conditions made it hard to swim and be wet then go ride and run. I was able to dress right for the bike as that is all I did:

Hardware rocks!
