Sunny
Total Time = 1h 29m 21s
Overall Rank = 43/114
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 6/17
Pre-race routine:

Nothing really unusual... got up and had Uncle Sam's Cereal and Stawberries. Showered , Shaved, and went to race check in at 5:30 am!
Event warmup:

50 yards in the water after setting up and then it was time to RACE!

I felt so much more calm than my 1st Tri last year at Cresent Moon! (This is only my 2nd Tri ever!) It just felt like another training day to me... I was still totally excited but much more relaxed. I was so much more outgoing and spoke with everyone around me... today was totally gonna be fun! :)
Swim
  • 14m 6s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

The Bouys weren't attached yet to the ground so they actually added on an additional 200 yards cause they were drifting around the water! I kept thinking my sighting/navigation sucked. But it wasn't really me but the Bouys moving around in the wind...

I did get really excited at the start and never really caught my breath...
What would you do differently?:

Sight a little better but really the bouys moving sucked! Nothing I could have done about it.

Stay calm and catch my breath early in the swim...
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

I aced getting out of the wetsuit finally! Felt like a champ putting my Helmet and shades on and sliding right out of the suit at the same time!

I had the toughest time getting my damn feet into my shoes once I was on my bike. I got the left foot in 1st and then messed with the right shoe for the 1st 2 miles or so.... It totally killed my bike time! I need Tri Bike shoes ASAP! I actually broke my toe fucking around with this! didn't know it at the time cause my feet were numb!
What would you do differently?:

Get Tri bike shoes and practice my jump onto the bike
Bike
  • 47m 27s
  • 15 miles
  • 18.97 mile/hr
Comments:

I really planned on going hard on the bike but messing with my bike shoes kind of killed my strategy! I still pushed it really hard but never felt fully recovered from my struggle with my shoes... I still had a good time once I was locked in though! Didn't even realize I broke my toe from messing with my bike shoes!
What would you do differently?:

Have bike Tri shoes and pushed it a bit harder on the hills!
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Felt really good about my transitions... much better than my 2 minute times last year!
What would you do differently?:

Not worn the shades or visor to save more time. They weren't really needed for such a short sprint!
Run
  • 25m 40s
  • 4 miles
  • 06m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

The wheels came off about a mile into the run... my breathing was really heavy and then I knew I was hurting... I did 6:05 mile one and then I had to ease back to stop my side ache and to cathch my breath... then I started to feel that my toe was broken and that really slowed me down!
What would you do differently?:

Not break my toe messing with bike shoes...
Post race
Warm down:

Walk/jogged 800 yards and then talked with other triathletes...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike shoes, staying relaxed on the swim, and breaking my toe...

Event comments:

Had a good time overall. I really loved the people at this race everyone seemed to know eachother. The pros were really cool too! Being a USAT sanctioned event made it REALLY competative! I'll do better next time! Next time I'm top 3 in age group no matter what!

Great job Sean!  Chilly water, eh?  Hope your broken toe doesn't mess up your training.

Good race, but yea, you've definitely got no where to go but faster.  I can't fathom how you broke your toe trying to get your foot in a shoe, unless you have some really violent way of going about it.  That buoy issue is BS.  It's not like it's the first time they put on that tri...
