Pre-race routine:

Up early at 4:15 and starting out with a bannana, power bar and gatorade. Picked up Oliver at Ymca at 5:00.
Swim
  • 33m 4s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was a PR for me and with some help from Paul and Oliver about sighting. I think I'm finally getting the hang of it. I need to work on speed but I'm glad that at least in this area I'm improving.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in a rhythm.
Transition 1

Bike
  • 1h 48m 19s
  • 25.48 miles
  • 14.11 mile/hr
Comments:

Right after I got on the course this guy crashes in front of me. Nice bike too but made me realize how slippery the road was so I decided not to push too hard on the declines which help pay the price going up those mountains. :)
My bike would not go into the easy gears going up the hills so that was a problem.
What would you do differently?:

Next time go ahead and push. Spending an extra 15 minutes on the bike cost me on the run as my legs were hurting.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

I'm happy with this time.
Run
  • 1h 02m 20s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 14s  min/km
Comments:

Lots of hills
What would you do differently?:

My legs were shot after that first hill so I just focused on one mile at a time. I know I can do better on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Just a few bites of some fruit and a balance bar.

Event comments:

I went into the race as a way to jump start the season for me. I didn't consider it a A race for me but it was very challenging and helped pinpoint my weak areas (all of them). Glad to see my friends do very well especially DocSwim who won his age group.

Sweet "jump start" and nice to see you use it to highlight areas for improvement.  Have a great season and watch out for those A races (I say that to your competitors).
