Total Time = 2h 59m 34s
Overall Rank = 81/105
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 17/18
Pre-race routine:

Race started at 9am, left around 5.15am, with gas stop and detour arrived around 7.40am, was perfect
During the drive I had two bananas, one ClifBar, one Gatorade and one coffee. No GI problems whatsoever, so I will stay with that combination...

Event warmup:

No warmup really, stayed out of the cold water as long as possible, was scared of cramps...
Swim
  • 28m 18s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 53s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started too far behind and to the outside, so I was going through the field for the first 25% or so. DUring that time I had real problems finding my rythm, breathing irregularly and one time even shortly turning on back to calm down. After the first 25% though the field cleared and I got into it.
Due to the little training this year though I was a little insecure whether I could keep the pace
Included in the swim time was again the run up the stairway to hell, I took it extra easy, as I had slight cramps coming out of the water, only one person passed me during that phase
What would you do differently?:

Be more confident and start further in the front
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Nothing special, took it easy, had some Gatorade and a gel
Was 16 out of 18 in AG
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really
Bike
  • 1h 23m
  • 24.85 miles
  • 17.96 mile/hr
Comments:

One of the worst race bike rides so far
I was being passed by probably 30 people.
Really missed my aerobars!!!!
In the last quarter of the bike split I felt like there was no power left in my legs...
What would you do differently?:

Train more?
Do race the day after an intercontinental flight?

Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

15 out of 18 in AG

Decided to leave the wet socks behind and go bare foot into the running shoes, was probably the right decision
Some more Gatorade and one gel
What would you do differently?:

T2 was okay...
Run
  • 1h 04m 42s
  • 6.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

While the bike already sucked, the run was the real low point of the day!
I took it super extra easy to make sure that I would not drop out... Had another gel around mile 2, but did not feel much of an effect
Another 10 or 15 people passed me and I had absolutely nothing to respond with!
What would you do differently?:

Less weight!
More training!
Post race
Warm down:

Had some food (pancakes and fruit), stayed around the finish line a little longer, then packed up my stuff and changed clothes

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training
Too bad that there was no Clydesdale division

Event comments:

Still like the race, just the weather conditions were pretty bad, plus of course my preperation
